I received a nice surprise form Geoff McDonald of Woodleigh fame in the form of 200 350 gr. Woodleigh .375 bullets...100 Protected point spitzers and 100 round nose... Geoff were not in accord over the PP spitzers, I did not like the idea, he did..now I have them and GEOFF WAS RIGHT, they are the most beatifull bullet I have ever seen for the .375. They shoot little tiny groups in both round nose and spitzer and to the same POI in the two guns I shot them in, one with a 1x10 twist and the other with a 1x12....he RN for herd shooting and the spitzer for everything else. This puts the 375 in the 416 class for dangerous game IMHO. and puts the old girl high on the all around ranking for calibers. ------------------

Ray, What velocity are you putting them out at for same POI? I am looking forward to trying some myself. Good Hunting ------------------

Ray, Did you chronograph those loads? The RN...was it a solid or softnose? Could you discern any appreciable increase in recoil? ------------------

Actually I went beyond 2500 FPS and that was a hot load....H414 gave me 2486 and seemed rather mild in my gun so thats what I will be working with later in the year...I have my H&H apart now and am rebuilding it...Sold the M-70 so I'm presently out of business... the above are cronographed and barrels were 24 and 25" with no decernable difference...the H414 load was the accuracy load also in these two rifles. ------------------

Possibly a stupid question, but...this is the 375 H&H and not some wildcat, right? ------------------

Ray, go to your local Home Depot and buy 3-4 5 gallon orange five gallon buckets with lids and whump them at 25 yds with your 350 gr bullets. Let us know their penetration expansion and bullet weight. they will be slightly less frontal area and weight retention than buffalo, but so close as to need a caliper and digital scale. (This based on George Hoffmans collection of 400 gr Swift from buff and my 400 gr Swift from the buckets).

Just received my first issue of African Hunter vol.7 #1. In their "On Target" section they address the issue of 300gr vs 350gr bullets in the .375H&H. The jist of it is that the standard twist rate of most .375H&H's is 1 in 12 and according to a formula they use( a professor Greenhill) the optimum twist rate for the300gr is 1 in 15 and the optimum twist rate for the 350gr is 1 in 13.5. They were using Rhino bullets for testing and loaded the 350 gr at a MV of 2250. I don't have a scanner or I would send the charts. Ralph

Buffalobwana, I'm not sure I understand your question? These are bullets only and will shoot in a standard 375 or any 375 wildcat...I was shooting them in two standard .375 H&H's.. Confused????? ------------------

350 gr. .375's ought to have a sectional density of .355+. That's very impressive. If they can be driven in the 2450-2500 fps range that's going to mess up my classification system something fierce. I may have to promote the old girl. Wow! Hmmm, I wonder what my super fast Mark X will do with those things. I know where there's another. If I bought it and sold everything else off and then customized both .375's, what else would I need? Now there's a scary thought! Sarge
