I posted this in the Big Bore forum also, so please forgive my redundency. I have a 458 Lott that was a gift. It has been customized, and althogh the serial number is still on the receiver and the caliber is stamped on the barrel, the make (CZ) and the model (550) were polished off by the gunsmith who customized it. I am worried that customs will not give me a 4457, or I may have trouble with SAPS or Tanzania Customs, or US Customs brining it back in. Anyone with similar experience?????

I do not think you will have an issue. Declair the rifle as a mauser and serial number and all will be good. The only time I put the make is when one is on the action. Many of my mausers have been customised and the only marks are the serial number. They have always made it through just fine.

I have done the same as lb404 and had no problems on either side of the big pond. The serial number will get checked... that's all in my experiences.
