Have secured our hunt, and am wondering what type of bullet to use. My wife will be using a 300wsm, and I will be using a 7mm Rem Mag. I dont reload as yet for these calibers so factory loads are what I will be using.
I thought Nosler Partitions, but the owner recommended Barnes triple shock.
We will be hunting for Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala, Zebra, Blesbok, Blue wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Warthog.

Thanks

I'm dead sold on A-Frames.....Northforks are no longer available or I'd include them.....the A-Frames are my "go-to" bullet for non dangerous big game!

I have used Nosler Partitions for over 50 years with never a bullet failure. That includes 8 trips to Africa. I wonder why everyone always compares any bullets performance to the Partition. I don't experiment with success.

I'm with vapodog on this one: The A-Frame is The Bullet for me. More accurate in my guns than the Barnes X, and regardless of angle, performance has never been an issue. Enjoy your safari, I wish I was going this year!! BN

I have used the 160 grain Nosler Partition in 7mm Rem. Mag. for all sorts of game in Africa and it is as reliable as any other I have tried.

Of course, the Barnes is a reliable bullet, too, as is the A-Frame recommended by others above.

If I were you, I would just try out a few loads with such bullets and use the ones that shot best in my rifles.

Thanks for the replies. MR, I was already thinking about your suggestion. Looks like I will start with the partition, and the A-frame and see which is more accurate out of my guns. This post just narrows it down.

I have used the Nosler Accubond on the same range of game as you will be hunting and it performed every bit as good as the Partition. You can't see a difference in the few bullets that were recovered. For bigger animals like buffalo, then I would opt for the A-Frames. The Barnes just are not as reliable an expander for me, and thats what you want for the plains game. 10 of us went to SA in 2006 and shot 90+ game animals ranging from 75lbs to 2000lb Eland and most of us used the Accubond bullets, all with complete success...not a single animal lost. They just work.

I used the 160 grain Remington A Frame load in my 7mm Rem mag and had nine out of ten one shot kills at ranges from thirty to in excess of 300 yards. It's a very accurate load in my rifle and very effective on both broadside and raking shots.

I've religiously used Nosler Partitions for something over twenty years of handloading with never a failure, then, last year in Africa I had SEVEN consecutive failures with Nosler 130 grain .270 Partitions, two animals were Springboks and one Black Wildebeest. Second shot at the Wildebeest performed perfectly. None of the animals were lost. I have no Idea what caused the failures, as the ammunition continued to perform perfectly for the rest of my safari, but those shots really shook me up. I am going back to the .30-06 and 220 grain Nosler Partitions for my next safari.

Please let us know which load shoots the best for you.

I've always found the A-Frame is much more accurate than the Partition, as a rule.

Accubonds are more accurate than their older brothers as well..........
