a little bit ago i wrote of taking a problem lion. just before that we took a huge leopard. so what comes after the lion
well we did have 2 of the poor farmers donkeys still dead where the lion had killed them. the area was lousy with hyenas, and here was fresh bait. Not one to do things conventionally we had decided that fresh hyena would be a nice addition to the skinners shed. since this was a problem private area we can hunt at night. no spotlighting wasn't the plan. something more -well - unconventional.
it worked on a lion so lets just drive the cruiser up next to donkey carcass- set the boom box on top of the truck- turn it on and see what appears.
It's pitch dark outside and the sounds carried for long distances. It didn't take long when we heard heynas screaming back at us. only thing was that they sounded miles away too.
After a few minutes we turned the boom box off and with 5 of us in the back of the truck we listened, and listened. 10 minutes, 15 mnutes 20 minutes and nothing. the only thing we can hear os something like scratching at the rear bumper of the truck. wondering what the sound was we turned ona flashlight. Whoa - here were 2 hyenas trying to get into the back with us.
The light spooked them and they ran off about 100 yds and stopped. The red dot in the scope proved its worth once again, standing out despite the 5 pairs of wet pants. the 3006 mate of the 9.3 is a particularly accurate piece and with two barrels and two hyenas it did its job well. 165 grain partitions ended the hyenas curiosity quickly.
once again wee made the old farmer happy/ how very kind of us
one suggestion. if yu decide to try anyithing like this in the future, wear rupper underwear and depends

Called Hyena after dark are a hoot, aren't they?

Whats funny is how everyone went blind after I shot at mine with a .416 Rigby. The flash was like a flashbulb going off... Fortunately he was dead like 30 feet from where I shot him. I missed what my PH called the "biggest F'in hyena he had ever seen... Just didn't see him, and shot at the wrong one.
