Hoping that 3rd Times a Charm
Leaving on saturday for SA for a 8 day hunt with Mukiwa Safaris in hopes that I can connect with the grey ghost of Africa. The kudu has become my "white whale" of African plains game. 15 days and some 70+ miles I have yet to get one in the cross hairs. Gotten close, tracked, crawled and done all things possible and have been denied. I know they are there, perhaps the hunt gods will smile upon me this time.

Group of 4 of us heading over, two first timers to Africa and my one buddy was fortunate enough to get a Limpopo Leopard tag. Trail cams have pictures of 2 very nice mature toms. Now if we can only get to hit bait during the day.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

When you finally get it, it will probably mean more to you than any other of your trophies. The harder you have to work for one the more important it will be as part of your hunting life. I actually sort of envy you as I had the same experiece with my sable. Hunted the same one for three years.

I'm sure you'll have a great hunt with or without a kudu - but best of luck to you! If you are hunting with Rod, tell him hello for me (Cindy from San Antonio). I'll cross my fingers for you.

Good luck on the kudu. I just took my first one last week in Zim. They are amazing animals and a wonderful trophy. Hopefully they are still in the rut when you arrive and will be a tad easier to spot. Any hard earned trophy regardless of size is the best kind of trophy.

Rod will get you into the big kudu, he's an excellent PH!

To all: Many thanks for the encouragement.

SC Sportsmen: First round is on me.

Ann and CJW: I will pass on your greetings to Rod. I know he has the kudu there, last year 3 of my buddies all got kudu of 55, 56 and 60 inches.
