A 6 part series that starts tonight on PBS. Well worth watching. I got a sneak preview of the episodes online. The reason I posted this thread is because of a segment that takes place about halfway through episode 3 titled "New Blood". In this episode there is a game swap/relocation that takes place between Gorongosa (PNG) and Coutada 9. In this era of anti hunting emotion I am very happy to report that the subject of regulated sport hunting was addressed in a positive light by the commentator from PNG. With the backdrop of C9 and a segment showing Gary Duckworth (I believe) guiding a client, he basically says that the revenue generated by hunters benefits many in the area and results in far more animals being protected than are harvested by hunters.

Bravo to PNG and the operators of Coutada 9 for making this possible.

Good episode on right now.

What I did not know is they are airing the episodes in pairs. The episode # 3 I referenced earlier will be next week.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Wanted to bump this back up to the top. Tonight is the episode that showcases the game swap with Coutada 9. It will occur about halfway thru episode # 3 which starts at 7 pm Central.

I think the comments regarding safari hunting were positive. Let us know if you agree.

Wow! I can't believe it! They really did give credit to hunters as contibuting to wildlife and it's propagation. They actually gave us credit for helping wildlife. On PUBLIC TV!

Is the sky falling again?

Thank you PBS!!!!

I enjoyed the first episode last night about the game swap. They didn't sugar-coat anything, admitted killing some animals and gave proper credit to the Coutada 9 hunting concession operators for preserving many more animals than they hunted.

I enjoyed the program, nice to see hunting get a fair shake for once. Good to see both Barrie and Gary Duckworth in the episode. They both and Neil have worked very hard to bring back Coutada 9.

This is why I scratch my head when people think I'm stupid for suggesting major hunting/gun organizations think outside the box and use what is perceived to be 'liberal' media to get their message out. We CAN get a positive message across vis these channels - it takes work, and persistence - but it can be done.

Exactly BaxterB...exactly why I continue to hound SCI and it supporters for not embracing the likes of Panthera and other scientific orgs when we had the chance for them to be our supporters. They are willing to embrace ethical hunting.

I routinely communicate with Gorongosa NP via their Facebook page. Our discussions have always been very pleasant and informative. Even when I discussed my hunting safari last year adjacent to the park they were eager to hear my report on the game I had sighted and the dollars that went back into the community near the park.

I sent them a note of thanks on behalf of the hunting community for their factual reporting of the successful game management taking place in Coutada 9.

I would like to visit the park on my next trip to Mozambique and I think that anyone who hunts there and has an opportunity to visit the park should do so.
