Crocs attack 2 at funeral in Monze By George Zulu in Monze Wed 14 Apr. 2010, 03:20 CAT TWO people have been attacked by crocodiles at the Nyimba fishing camp in Monze. Both Monze District Commissioner Emerson Machila and Monze mission hospital medical superintendent Dr John Mvula confirmed the incident and named the victims as Kenneth Lanyama and Nila Kalonga Kakanda who are admitted to the mission hospital. Machila said the duo was asleep at a funeral when they were attacked. “I have received this report that Lanyama had gone to a funeral house and around 01:00 hours as he was asleep, the crocodile pounced on him and started dragging him to the river just a metres away from the waters of Kafue. Simultaneously Nila Kakanda was also ambushed by another reptile and was bitten on the thigh and all these two people are admitted at the mission hospital,” he said. Speaking from his bed, Lanyama said the reptile attacked him when he was asleep at the funeral on one of the islands. “I was fast asleep and just felt something pulling and dragging my left leg towards Kafue River. I shouted for help but the crocodile was too big and it managed to pull me into the water with the blanket I was covering. I was lucky that some people managed to come to my rescue, but it only managed to go with the blanket,” said Lanyama. And Dr Mvula said the wound Lanyama sustained was serious and if no improvement were recorded by next week, doctors would have no option but to amputate the leg. Can't we have some kind of incident that killed the dinosaurs happen to crocs? I really don't think I would shed a single tear for them. | |||
