Terry, educate me a bit please. Does the Ph know that ele's like this are out there (ie. they have seen them before while scouting) or are they as surprised as the client when they see something like this? I am assuming that ele's tend to stay pretty much in the same general area as opposed to "migrating" over large distances.
Peter.

Peter,

I not trying to step on Terry's toes but I did speak with Johan directly after his client shot the elephant.

Apparently they had seen the elephant before but he was over the line into a no hunting area. One day they were just driving along the boundary and saw the elephant again and he was headed for their hunting area. They stopped the vehicle, waited and sure enough the elephant kept coming and crossed into the hunting area where they dispatched him.

People might say that the above is not an elephnat hunt but sometimes a trophy presents itself in a manner we never thought of. Could any of us turn down such a trophy????

As for PH's knowing that a big elephant is in an area Calitz told me that he had never seen that elephant until a couple of days before it was shot. I believe that is norm and a big elephant can be here one day and long gone the next.

Regards,

Mark
