We were in Ellisras this weekend visiting my Father when yesterday morning I deciced to take my son up the mountain. Luckily the guy next door build a road steep but it's there. So off we went my son on my shoulder. I also realized that carrying 15kg to the top is quite tiring and had to take pictures a long the way for the simple excuse to have a breather. Aaron my son thought it was very funny seeing his dad out of breath. Anyway we took it slow (Me) and we managed to get somewhere Not the best portrait but it works. Almost on top and a view of the Mogol river below. That is about 8km from the Hans Strijdom dam don't know what the dams new name is or don't care as well. Finally on top I have spend many hours sitting on that specific rock. A few meters to the right I sat on another rock when they were still putting thatch on our roof when a kudu cow walked straight towards me she didn't know about me neither did she know what hit her. Anyway the guys doing the thatching were very happy for extra protein and me for the help carrying her off. I hope my son enjoyed it but I'm sure he did it took me less than a third of the time to get down. Hope you enjoy the pictures I have once again build some great memory with my son. Safari-Hunt, Cherish those memories. Before you know it, he'll be waiting for you to catch up, and he'll probably outshoot you, too. But there's much joy in having one's son following dad's footsteps, so the enjoyment lives on ....

As a grandfather to five, I can second what Rikkie said....time just fly !! Hopefully you and your son has many good years ahead of you to spend together. I was driving through the Waterberg area in May on my way to the hunting camp on the banks of Limpopo, not far from the Stockport border crossing. Beautifull, breathtaking landscape and so wery different from where I live. Arild Iversen.

Enjoy every moment, time goes so quickly. My grandson will be 6 come Thursday and his sister is 3 and I just can't see enough of them. I know when you are raising your own there are other things that take your time like making a living, so cheerish all the time you get with them.

I enjoyed your post very much. I'm glad you said so as I was going to ask if that was the Mogol in the background. I have friends from Ellisras. It is a very beautiful area but I fear it's not for long. An old man sleeps with his conscience, a young man sleeps with his dreams.

Those kind of moments are part of the joyous quilt that is a family. The thread that holds them together is love. Both were obvious in your post. Keep enjoying your son.

I've hunted that area, that looks like Laurel farm. Pete If Chuck Norris dives into a swimming pool, he does not get wet. The swimming pool gets Chuck Norris.

Why are you saying that ? Pete, It's Baviaanshoek plots down the Witkop road. Thanx everyone it was really a magnificent time. Even though my legs are still stiff I will do it over again. Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I didn't mean to sound so glum about the future of the Ellisras area. It's just that the development that had taken place during my last visit was considerable (and was continuing). I understand there are yet two more huge mines/power plants planned and my friend and his neighbors were terribly worried about land claims and BEE encroaching on their operations. Can't wait until I can get back though! An old man sleeps with his conscience, a young man sleeps with his dreams.

Yes, Oupa you are correct but everything will extend from Ellisras the town itself towards the Limpopo trough Steenbokpan. So the mountains will stay the same except when you will be on top of one at night and see the lights in the distance.
