I see on the Win. website there is the Custom Mod. 70 in 404 Jeffery listed now, for those that need one ($3000).

Will, I'm having one made up on a Ultrsmag action/stock. I will have considerably less than that into it when finished, 1/4 rib & all.

I turned over a 404 LW barrel, a CZ 550 action and a nice chunk of Turkish to Brockman...He will rebarrel, clean up the action, install sights and turn the wood, I will do the stock myself....

Thanks, Will, there is hope that the last of the Big Five series from the Winchester Custom shop will be a 404 Jeffery, and for less money than that, since they make 125 of each of them:

2000: Lion 375 H&H
2001: Elephant 458 WinMag
2002: Leopard 338 WinMag
2003: Rhino 470 Capstick
and
hopefully

2004: Cape Buffalo 404 Jeffery

It would only be fitting. I cannot see why Winchester would want to top off the series with a 416 REMINGTON!

Winchester .404

Of course, they misspelled it.

RIP

I ordered a Model 70 Custom Safari Express in .416 Rem. Mag., has the buffalo on the floor plate and the engraving and was told by Winchesters custom shop that caliber would be the 5th in the series. Problem was I needed it for Zim this year and wanted to get mine ready to go. You should see the wood.

CFA,
I was afraid you would say that ... again!

Of course there is nothing wrong with a 416 Remington, it would just have been better had it been called the 416 Hoffman.

And it would have been better to use the 404 Jeffery as the last of the Big Five rifle series.

Build your own or order from the Custom Shop, eh? !@#$%&*!

I guess you saw T.Carr's post that the .404 is now available from the custom shop. Since reading the Bod and not reloading myself, the .416Rem was as close as I could get. I agree the classic calibers are great.

You're not DaggaRon/Rip, the champion of the Rigby 416. Who are you really?
