Yank Allen was the greatest lion hunter Africa has ever seen. He was a cowboy from Texas who wore riding boots and a colt revover on all public appearances. Look up Brian Marshes articles on the web (or Magnum magazine). Had another fellow come out here in the 50s to capture animals for zoos and particularly crocs for crocodile wrestling matches. Once upon a time, when I was a young lad read a book titled "Bring them back alive" wrote by a certain Frank Buck if I remember well. There the a group of cowboys lassoed African animals for zoos.
That chap was severely questioned I understand.

John Burger, the buffalo hunter, wrote of a group of Americans led by Buffalo Jones who lassoed African game.
They got about everything except elephant. This was in
his book "Horned Death".
