30 Kafue park buffaloes die after suspected poisoning Written by Chibaula Silwamba From The Post September 30, 2009 THIRTY buffaloes suspected to have been poisoned were found dead in the Kafue National Park. Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) spokesperson Wilfred Moonga yesterday confirmed that wildlife officers who were on patrol found the dead buffaloes on Sunday along Musa River in the southern part of Kafue National Park. "When the officers reported the matter, we dispatched veterinary experts to go and collect samples which will be taken to the University of Zambia (UNZA) laboratory for diagnosis to determine the cause," said Moonga. "But we suspect the buffaloes were poisoned." Moonga said ZAWA officers had been dispatched to the national park to patrol the area and physically inspect the water pools to determine if any of them had poison content. And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too. May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep. May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip. -Seth Peterson | |||
