I found the original front sight insert on the CZ to be woefully wanting. It was just black metal (although I painted it white) and I thought it to be too small as well. At least for my more mature eyes (nice way of saying older). I studied the NECG sights in Brownells catalog. The Masterpiece Banded front sight inserts looked similar so I wrote and asked. Here follows the answer from a most helpful Mr. Mark Cromwell at NEGC. Hope this helps some of you CZ Magnum owners on this forum. I know there are quite a few. "Dear Mr. Elliott, Thank you for your inquiry. We are working on possibly offering replacement sights for the CZ rifles. In the mean time our Masterpiece banded front ramp beads in S1, S2 and S3 can be modified to fit your ramp. When you say your sight is .215†high is that the overall height to the bead including its dovetail base or is it just the blade height from the top of the sight ramp to the top of the bead? Best regards, Mark Cromwell Mark, It's the over all height. Calipers on the bottom of the base and the top of the bead. I suspect your shortest sights will be close to right. Thanks, Rich Dear Mr. Elliott, I would suggest that you try a 6mm / .237†front sight in either or S1 or S2 beads. They can be modified to fit your ramp. Best regards, Mark Cromwell NECG So I ordered an S1 (5/64" silver bead) and an S2 (3/32" silver bead from Brownells. And I just sent the following message. "Dear Mark, Amazing what a small stone, file, hacksaw and Dremel tool can do. I now have 2 perfect front sight inserts for the CZ 550 .416 Rigby. I stoned a bit from the bottom, filed the bevel a bit sharper on the side, Ground about 1/8" off the back end of the sight (opposite the bead of course), hacksawed about 3/16" off of that end and used a small round tapered Dremmel bit to make a U in the end for the spring loaded stop to pop through. Voila! Thanks & Regards, Rich Elliott Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris

Rich, Your eyes must be better than mine. I am presently modifying the CZ front sight to use a Universal Ramp bead, the large white ~5/32" (0.158") diameter white bead. For a white bead, the other alternative is to do what you did but use the pop-up moon bead (3/32") for the NECG barrel band front sight. The 3/32" is still too small for me. Glad it worked out. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Will, I too prefer a 5/32. I just checked my old .458 Lott and the big white bead on it is 1/8" I can still see it plenty good. That was a jungle gun and needed something huge like that up front. I looked at that "moon sight" but it was too tall. With the .215" high sight that came on the rifle I was shooting just a bit high @ 50 Yards. This .237 should be about right and I think that in more open country I can see the 3/32" silver bead okay. Rich Elliott Rich Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris

My smith is getting good at the H&H Moon Bead pop-up from NECG/Brownells. I have one on backorder now for a CZ 550. The proper milling tools of the smith will be needed to get the moon bead to fold down flush into the ramp on the CZ. The standard one is the right height for the one I have. That will make the CZ factory sights very nifty.
