Whilst surfing, I came across TGTS/WWS's website which has been updated w/2004 Picts. Some real nice trophies...

TGTS/WWS Photo Gallery

Of particular interest is the "Lions turned down this season" section. This has been a topic discussed before, but "Could You Not Shoot These Lions?"

I give them, and their hunters, credit. And hope they don't mind me posting the url... In all, they have pictures of 28 male lions not shot, some of which are quite young. Here's a pict of one that was shot...

Bringing this post back on track....you must have a different perspective on what constitutes a trophy lion if you can afford to hunt with TGTS! I certainly take my hat off to both the management of TGTS and their hunters for selectivity of the cats they shoot. I don't know if I could pass on a couple of those lions, certainly looked mature to me and if I hunted hard for them I would have no problem harvesting the mature lions in that group!

I just looked at all the lions they didn't shoot. There was a lot of lions I would have had a very hard time not shooting. I'm not sure how to judge lions, but some of the ones they display that were taken by clients look no bigger than some of the ones they passed on. There also seems to be some lions at the very end of their gallery that look almost white. Is this just the light or are they really that pale?

That last lion is a shooter but, if my reading of their web site is correct, was probably passed up because of the cubs. If that male is taken out, a new one will move in and kill those cubs. If the cubs had been absent or older, I can't imagine being told by a PH to hold off on that cat.

Best,

Gents,

As you may know I hunted with TGTS last year and John's comment about the cubs is spot on. If you shoot a lion with TGTS you can be proud of it in everyway but I would not recommend the hunt for someone who would be upset at not shooting a lion. If the hunt itself is enough than it is a wonderful experience.

Regards,

Mark

Glad to hear they have a few left over as I'll be opening the 2005 season with them in July!
