Wildlife auction rakes in R6.7m

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal's Ezemvelo Wildlife raked in R6.7m at the weekend during a rhino auction in Pietermaritzburg, the conservation body said on Monday.

Spokesperson Jeff Gaisford said 32 white rhinos were sold to private game reserves and game ranches in the country for an average price of R198

Another 330 animals including warthogs, wildebeest and impala were also sold.

Gaisford said the auction was designed to dispose of an animal surplus in areas managed by the organisation.

The money, he said, would be used to keep the organisation afloat.
