Mike I am sorry to see that you used Hunter International. I had nothing but a bad experience with them. The over the road shipping of your crate shoulnd't cost that much. I later found that Maria is shipping the crate as a class 200 rather that a class 100 as raw hides are normally shipped. Class 200 is condsidered fine art. They claimed that do to the Warthog inside it had to be shipped by a USFW approved bonded shipper. Both she and Hunter told me that the $85 fee for inspection is to have a USFW agent opent he crate to inspect for the Warthog and Babboon that I see you have neither of. USFW doesn't charge for this service, it's what they do and I later found out that the crate was inspected at Golden State by USFW. I question whether the crate was inspected in SF. I was never able to get a clear explination of the Airline ISC, a fee I've never heard of a and One that Hecny is not charging me for. The Collection charge is 4% of the Airfreight bill. Maria claimed that this is the fee charge to wire the monies to the shipper in Africa. I have checked with my two banks I use and both only charge a flat fee. Hecny has never charged me this fee either. You may want to ask some questions, As you may be able to tell I was less that impressed, as well as some other problems I had with storage and when and how they notified me or lack there of. Good luck

That's actually right in line with what it cost me to ship my stuff a couple of years ago. Make the first one count!

Why make a candy dish of course! LOL! Hell I dont really know. I figure it will make a nice pouch of some type. The ph really pissed me off that day so I wasnt about to leave it for them. I will figure out something. Maybe a nice possibles bag for my muzzleloader. Happiness is a warm gun

I assume that means flat skin. I had them skin it in two pieces excluding the scrotum. I had the neck done as one piece and the body done as one piece. I figure to make rugs out of them. An oval out of the one and a runner out of the other. Trim them both out in leather. My ceilings are too low for a neck/shoulder type mount. besides this guy had been fighting so much he had completely broken off one of the knobs on his head and was all cut up. I am keepin the skull but it wouldnt have made a very good mount. Happiness is a warm gun

I have never used a broker before. I have always cleared the stuff myself or had a taxidermist friend do it. I am going to check into a couple of those charges. I am happy with her service so far. She has kept me informed every step of the way. I am not unhappy with their bill but call it what it is. There is no reason to make up a bunch of stuff. My only complaint so far is they dont take credit cards which is very inconvenient for me. My job requires me to often work 12 to 15 hour days. That makes it very difficult to overnight a bank check to them. There also seems to be some lack of communication between differnt parties within the office. I will do some more checking. Thanks for the heads up. Who is Hecny? Happiness is a warm gun

Sorry for the delay. Been working in the basement, gotta make room for the leopard. On my first trip I used Hecny and they are clearing my RSA shipment this week from last years trip. Maria and Hunter used to work for Hecny. Hecny is an international brokerage and is out of Brisbane Ca., which is across the bay from San Francisco. Their number is 415-468-0600. They also don't take credit cards. In comparing their shipping bill and that of Hunter International, they don't have the charges that Hunter International does. As I described in the previous post. I just had a nice long chat with Hunter Felix. He explained exerything to my satisfaction. I am very happy with the service I have received from them. The fee charged me was very reasonable for the shipment. I will use them again! Happiness is a warm gun

Speaking of trophy shipment, we just recieved ours in one shipment from a hunt in 03 in Zim. It was much delayed because we had a bunch of elephant hide tanned. It also included 2 trophy,s from last year. Niki's buff that we had a run in with and a zebra. So: 5 buff skulls and horns 1 buff back skin and cape (It's got lots of bullet holes in it! 1 full zebra 1 hyena skin and skull 2 kudu skins 1 duiker skin 2 ele tusks about 30 lbs each one ele tail 6 panels of beautiful tanned ele hide from Bulawayo Tannery. Lot of boots there! A few other odds and ends. approx. 300 pounds Almost $3000 delivered to MT. Ouch!!! Interesting seeing the buff that gored Niki. Not a real big set of horns (fortunetely) but he sure had a big body. Nice bullet hole entering his skull and brain cavity on the edge of his left boss. Looks like the solid went down the left side of the brain cavity and exited. Maybe I'll post a picture of it. Anyway, these shipments are pricey but it always has been.

Just to set the record straight, my husband (Hunter Felix) has never worked at Hecny. He served in the military and is an avid hunter like everyone else in this forum. He is also an SCI/NRA/SABLES life member and is a passionate republican conservative like I am. I'm the one who worked as Wildlife Director at Hecny for 11 years. My apologies to KINO if he was unhappy with our services. Please note that Fish & Wildlife does not go to tanneries or taxidermy shops unless it warrants a "special circumstance". USFWS inspects and clears trophies at the airline's bonded facility. It is the USDA area veterinarian that checks trophies on approved USDA facilities as mandated for unprocessed birds, warthogs and bushpigs and for other trophies designated because they originated from ASF & BSF countries. I've got a crate coming in to NYC sometime in the near future. I'm using Barian Shipping who contracted with German Shipping in RSA. The crate contains only finished trophies (everything from pedastal mounts to european mounts and flat skins) generated by my and Mike's little adventure. What should we be expecting in the way of expenses once the crate hits US soil? Rick R Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most.

Keith, post the picture of Niki's buff skull please. We have all read and seen, with concern and interest, the stories on her encounter. To now see the picture of the buffalo skull with the bullet hole would be amazing. Also, for the others as to the use of the tanned scrotum of an animal, they make great bullet, small possibles, trinket and other bags for use with American Mountain Man rendezvous, etc. If nothing else, carry your change in them. They are great converation pieces with people. Finally, I have had penis canes made from some of my animals. Now that's a conversation piece!
