Hi all

Since there are places in Africa that were ravaged by war that are now productive in terms of allowing BG hunting - such as Moz, I would like to know - does anyone know what is happening on the other side of the continent in Angola?

On the surface they SEEM similar - ex-Portuguese, war, corruption, and all the African litany.

Just seemed that Angola used to have the giant sable and the black faced impala (and I loved hunting impala).

Anyone know if/when/whether it will ever be reopened for hunting?

Thanks for listening! Smiler

The first areas to open will be adjacent to the Luiana Patial Reserve. Alot of elephants from Botswana have filtered up there in the past 5 + years. I feel the reduction of hunting in Botswana will push Angola along a little quicker.

Roger Whittall was working on it a couple of years ago and ran into multiple problems, haven't heard any recent reports. the initial game reports were very encouraging.

Last I have heard as well...Roger's area was to be on the northern border of Luiana PR.

Having lived there for three years and being hopeful it would open up while I was there, I have to say I don't think it's very close. The infrastructure is in shambles, the visa process is a mess, no way or extremely difficult to bring in firearms, no process in place for exporting animals. Obviously all those problems can and have been overcome in other countries, but I think the biggest stumbling block is that there is very little incentive for anyone in the government to give hunting much support. The revenue it would bring in is meaningless compared to the oil revenue Angola currently brings in. Good luck telling them the hunting revenue is sustainable and low impact and the oil money will dry up in 50 years. It's all about what's lining their pockets now. Still, I hope outfitters keep working on it and I would love to go back someday and give it a go.
