A canal caravan by drone!

Took this last Friday.

An hour later it was blowing so hard and sand everywhere we had to run off.

You are not far wrong on this.

Where we have a thriving modern city today, was utter desolation not long ago.

About 40 years ago I got a piece of land to build my house on.

My father asked why I went so far out of town!

Now my house is almost central to a lot of development.

The area you see in the video is about 30 kilometres from my house.

It has a fantastic cycling track, probably about 150 kilometres long.

Very popular with cyclists.

On the way back on Friday we must have seen hundreds of them going there.

The camels all are owned by someone.

They are bred for different purposes.

Some for racing, some for food.

We were unlucky to get caught in the wind which turns the desert into a sand blasting machine.

Fills your eyes and everything around.

My daughter also went to the desert that same day with her friends, but a different area, may be 50 kilometres away from this.
No wind there at all and apparently more trees.

Or like part of a different planet !
Fantastical !
Saeed and Alan herding camels ?
Cop car showed up toward the end of the video ?
And how in the world do the few trees grow to such size in such a landscape ?
The fenced enclosures, buildings, etc.: Oilfield related or desert day spa ?

Camel question answered above, thanks, Saeed.
Camel racing actually sounds like better entertainment than NASCAR.
Camels as food: Camel burger might work well in my spaghetti and chili recipes.

I think there were 3 cars in the video.

Blue Rangler belongs to a friend, which we used to go there.

A small blue SUV behind the camels was actually a camel herder.

The white SUV on the other side of the track is just another person going for a drive.

We passed a bunch of cars and trucks parked by the sand dunes, they had trailers on which they transport small off road 4 wheel bikes to have fun on the sand dunes.
