Hi all!

The time is now right to inform all our friends in the hunting world that we signed a exclusive deal with Artemis Safaris in Mozambique.

Infinito Safaris will from 2012 operate the Mecundia and Salia concessions in the Zambesi Delta of Mozambique. Infinito Safaris will have the exclusive hunting rights to this area for the next 5 years, with the first option to buy the company after this initial term expires.

We now started all the legal bits for work permits and such.

The area is approx. 90,000 acres big with a healthy population of approx. 500 Buffalo. We hope to look after them in such a way that these numbers will double in the next 5 years.

I just returned, having spent the last 5 weeks doing three hunts there. AR member Larry Swartz shared a wonderfull 20 day Safari with us. I also hunted with two Russian clients who each bagged their Buffalo, Hippo, and Croc trophies.
See LArry's report in the hunting report area on AR for pictures of the camp and area.

The area is unique in as such we use boats to and from the hunting areas.

Hunters do not see the Landcruiser after their first arrival day! They only see it on departure.

The hunting is tough and demanding, but a wonderful change from the Mopane and Miombo woodland hunts.

This year we had 10 Buffalo, 5 Hippo and 20 Crocs on qouta (We limit ourselves to only shooting 5 crocs and 5 Buff for now!)

We also had 1 Leopard tag and it sounds as if we will get another one next year.

Infinito Safaris will now operate this area in Mozambique under the name Artemis Safaris, but all marketing will be done by Infinito Safaris.

You are more than welcome to contact me with any inquiries.

Our qouta for 2012 will hopefully be available by 1 December 2011.

Oh! and for all the doomsday prophets out there that will try and make this of as an illegal hunting area. The owner of Artemis Safaris, Albert Smith, got his DUAT from the Mozambique governement 3 months ago, making this as legal as it gets. I'm also in possesion of a copy of the qouta given by the Mozambique Central Government.

I have also already cleared the trophies in Quelimanne and they have been delivered to the Dip and Ship fascility in Chimoio.

So to those Moz. operators that might jump up and down with Professional jealousy, we are here to stay and look forward to be working hand in hand with all of you in future!

I have always said that we will only get involved in Mozambique, if we can do it right, and now we are doing it............the right way!

Good stuff. Looking at the report I would say the buff quality is not good. When you say 500 buff are you talking about one herd?

Your client took a 10 foot croc and is this representative of the area?

Andrew,

I can assure you the croc is not indicitave of the quality.

I also shot a 14ft croc with a Russian client during the same time. Larry saw this croc.

The Buffalo are good, and you will see in years to come. The truth off the matter is that the hunting is VERY hard physicaly, and I must take my hat off to Larry that managed to crawl 1 and a half hours over burned stuble in 80%humidity and 90degrees temp.

The herds are about 50-60 strong, and we are hoping to increase this, as I mentioned, over the next 5 years.

The area borders the Morremeu reserve on the one side, and most of these Buff are a spill over from the 44,000 strong population in that part of the world.

But then again, not everywhere is Zambia Wink

So which Coutada are your areas located in and do you border the Zambezi River as well? Sounds like you are talking about hunts in the delta swamps?

These areas are not part of the Coutada's, but part of the "Game Farm" system. The wording is very misleading and it is not a farm at all. The Moz. government introduced these areas to open up more hunting/conservation areas. The area is IN the Delta and the boundary runs all the way to the mouth of the Zambesi.

There are a lot of swamps, but all the hunters took their Buff on dry land (after crossing a couple of muddy and wet spots)

When I looked on the quota sheet (where all these areas in the whole of Moz is listed with their qouta) there seems to be about 10 of them with legal quota.

I'll see what we can sort out with Google earth and maybe post a map of the area.

Yes, please1 A map would be helpful. I have been in Coutada 10 & 11 but cannot visualize the area you reference. It is a wonderful area, if you can stay out of the swamps.
