I need a pair of boots for Africa, and I plan on doing alot of walking over uneven terrain.
I have bad feet, and I need alot of support and cushion.I have plastic orthotics that I put in the boot and they help alot.What do you all recommend? I would like the following features:
8inch height
tough sole
gore-tex
comfortable/good cushion
good ankel support
foot does not slide around in boot
room around the toes
money is no problem

I have bad feet myself and i also wear plastic supports. I had Russel make me a pair of thier trackers last year and that's what I wore to Zim. They worked great and still work great for me. They dont have any cushiong though. I wore medium weight smart wool socks the whole time in Zim and that's what I wear with most of the time here. Russell will add some support and cushioning to thier boots if you ask I think.

I do not understand why one would want Goretex in a boot unless you expected a lot of rain or grass that was wet all day long (rather than just the morning). The whole point of Goretex is "breathable but waterproof". It works for that, but the boot is not as breathable as it would be without the Goretex feature.

How about the Irish setter Wingshooters?
I liked the Meindel's from Cabelas, but they didn't fit well in my toe area. Any other Boots?

Try Danners, I wear the Fort Lewis at work. They are 10" high and have great support. They break in real easy and are very waterproof and breathable. I use the most beat pair that I have when I go to Africa and then leave them there as a tip for a tracker or skinner.

You might want to try the Arcadia model it is a little lighter and cooler as it has courdoura sides yet offers the same support and waterproof.

I'm picky about boots, and won't buy them by mail order or on other folks' recommendations. Each maker uses a slightly different "last" as a model for the foot they're trying to fit. My own personal foot is broad across the forefoot and narrow across the heel. Danner fits (or "used to fit," anyway) a foot that's broader across the heel, and doesn't work for me at all.

Fortunately, unlike all of my other picky purchases, the "quartermaster" last of the US military boot fits me well. Military outlet-type stores should have a selection of those, at reasonable prices.

When/if I go to Africa hunting, I'll leave my Vasque GoreTex boots at home and wear either my Corcoran boots or the military's "new" Desert boots. Neither is GoreTex, and both are cooler than my GoreTex boots. --A dry foot is a healthy foot...--
