I know that this isnt a fishing forum but it is in Africa and I dont know where else to post it.

Last week we did the second part of the fishing dvd on Specimen Carp Fishing this time it was in a more remote dam the weather was still not perfect but much better and my brother Vincent came along as well and I got to fish a little as well. With the little I did fish between filming I ended up catching the biggest one of the trip what great luck. A 27 pounder mirror carp.

The 27 pounder and a different view

The last Carp of the trip early Sunday morning.

My brother's carp's a 22 pounder a 21 pounder and a 19 pound barbel

Safari-hunt,

have you ever tried to take carp on fly?

I have only taken one while chasing yellows, man, they are bliksems on a fly!! Some guys are quite good at it, especially sight fishing.

I used to live near a small stream in Benoni and we would use floating bread crust that we would cast just far enough into the reeds to get it hung-up in the slow current (but not so hung up as to cause problems).

You could watch the carp start homing in on that crust and those big sadza-sucker lips wrap around it...great sport and a good fight on light tackle in skinny water.

My best is still Mudfish/moggel on fly, which happen occasionally when after yellows too...man thats a strong fish!!!

Looks like you okes got some good carp...you should amrket yourself in the UK, carp fisherman there would have nervous break downs with the carp you are catching!

kayaker,

No not on a fly yet and I doubt it if I would like to wrestkle that 12.5kg carp with a fly rod.

Not that I say that it cannot be done but getting these big ones just on good tackle is already a challenge. lol

Jakkals,

Wil do, we ended up with 36 Carp avg. of 7kg I only caught 3 of them luckily the biggest one Big Grin

So that was 252kg of carp we caught. Cannot wait to see what a 20kg will look like hopefully I will catch one myself.

Oh BTW before this trip the biggest carp I have ever caught was 3kg. And the feeling of letting one of these big boys swim away again gliding in your hands in the water is just super.
