I didn't catch why Jeff Rann ended up shooting the elephant in this episode. It was interesting to watch, but do PH's normally drop trophy bulls in their own area? That 577 definitely did a number on that bull though...wow!

I didn't really understand that either. The only thing I can think of is it was an old bull, and he took it for culling purposes. It was a REALLY intense shot: wide open and no cover. It was awesome watching an H&H Royal double in 577 in the field! SWEEEEET! _____________________________________________________ No safe queens!

Ditto. Cool show and neat hunt but I was confusted as well. They played it off as some sort of management situation but that doesn't pencil out. Kyler

That really was a fine looking double. I'm just not sure if I could stand in front of a big bull like that and still be able to pull the trigger, let alone hit where I was aiming. I've stood in front of the full mount at Cabelas in Dundee, MI and I feel anxious to say the least. I have no issues with hunting them, but ele is one of the few animals that are just scarey to me. Maybe after a few buffalo I'd relax some, but I doubt it. Also, is the author with him carrying a Dakota? He normally hunts with a SAKO, but I don't think Sako makes a big bore lefty do they?

I am sure not an expert in elephant hunting, altho I have seen a lot of movies I would say that Jeff is a very brave man sure of his shooting ability to walk into an open field after a bull the size of that one. It was a great shot Never rode a bull, but have shot some. NRA life member NRA LEO firearms instructor (retired) NRA Golden Eagles member
