I own the African Plains Rifle, from Remington's Custom Shop, in .300 Winchester Magnum. It's topped off with a Leupold 2.5 X 8 scope. I'm shooting 180 grain handloaded Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. It is quite accurate (sub MOA).I've used it to take Bush Buck, Nyala, Southern Reedbuck, Impala, and a few others.

By contrast, I also owned one in .300 Weatherby Magnum, and I just couldn't get it to shoot at all; even with factory ammo. I'd get one great group, then 3 or 4 that opened up to 3 inches. I got rid of that one in a hurry.

Now I only use my customized Model 70 in .375 Ackley Improved, for plains game, unless I know I'm going to have some long range shooting as the norm. Then I'll fall back on the 300 Winnie.

A kudu is the size of an elk but they live in the brush so ranges tend to be within 150 yards. There certainly can be exceptions but that is much the norm. Therefore any medium range rifle that you would happily use on elk will do for kudu. If you have eland on the plan then move up to whatever your favorite moose rifle is. Eland are huge! If you're not a moose hunter, then my humble recommendation is something on the order of the .338 (either /06 or Win. Mag.), the .35 Whelen or the 9.3x62. Many here will say that I've overgunning but those things are big and can carry lead and move really fast when they want to. You're going to pay the trophy fee whether it gets away or you put it in the truck and they taste so good that you absolutely don't want to lose it. Use enough gun . . . even for eland. Big Grin

I am not familiar with the rifle, but they are essentially bullet launchers. Any 300 magnum or 30-06 is sufficient for plains game when used with 180 or 200 grain bullets. The requirement is for good penetration and consistently good bullet performance. The difference between the 30-06 and magnum is 25 yards in "point blank" range.

In the mountains, you need the magnum and then some. Most other places, you can stalk the added 25 yards. Kudude
