I believe he was checking the preassure in his air rifle with his trigger finger on top and using the other hand to squeeze trigger.
(He forgot to check if there was something else in there.)
As for incidents on other body parts, I do not wish to comment.
Thank you, Hannah, for the clarification. I think.
Really makes one wonder how "other body parts" were put in harms way. But, out of respect for the decorum of this board, I shall not press further.

RobinOLocksleyNice pics again.
How come those hippos 'allow' a blind being built so close to them.Aren't they supposed to be aggressive and territorial beasts?

SaeedWe got rained on yesterday five ktes out of camp. I was the only one with a rain jacket, so we turned back to camp.
After the rain stopped, we headed out.
We drove most of the morning looking for buffalo. We found a warthog and shot him. Then stopped to have lunch.
After lunch we continued our search for buffalo. We found a herd, and spent the rest of the day chasing it.
Most of the time we were within 100 yards of them feeding. But the being a large herd - about 250 heads - and thick bush, we never managed to get a shot at a very good mature bull among them.
Headed back to camp, getting there quite late.
Walter shot an impala.

Michael RobinsonI am made homesick, Saeed, from your stories and photos, as I had to cancel my safari to Tanzania this year.
But you bring it back to me very strongly.
Thanks.
Walter's buffalo may have been Walterable, but he is and would be a grand specimen for any of us.
I love the Lichtenstein's hartebeest and East African greater kudu in your latest photos as well.
Some folks are quite obviously paying attention to the quality of the chosen and taken game.
You are doing it as it should be done.

Your photos are amazing. I love the fact you take pics of everything.
Maybe you could create a thread with just your pictures.

HnHSaeed..Thank you for the amazing photos..it is captured so beautifully and 'real'..
Enjoy the last 6 days to its full (ie. please stay away from Walter) as once back here you can only shoot surplus Iguanas and the odd Crow.

Brilliant idea..but please do try to encourage him to do some rational editing. He generally comes back with several thousands of photos. How he finds time to hunt is a mystery to me.

SaeedSorry about the delay.
This is a 2 day report, as I have missed yesterday.
We wanted to drive to another area of the concession, which is quite far away. About an hour out of camp, we saw the fresh tracks of a herd of buffalo, and decided to follow them. We followed for about an hour, seeing them several times, but, the bush was so thick there was no way to pick a bull from them, if there was one.
We gave up the chase and continued on our way. We saw 2 bushbuck chasing each other, and I shot one.
Again, we got on our way.
A couple of hours later, we saw the tail end of a herd leaving a waterhole. We looked at them to see if there was any shootable bull amongst them.
Sure enough, there was a mature bull with a massive boss.
We followed them for a while, until they got to some grass. Some laid down to sleep, others continued to feed. We managed to get to about 50 yards of them, and saw the bull we are after sleeping. He was surrounded by others, so there was no chance of a shot.
I got onto the shooting sticks and waited. Eventually he got up, and I put a bullet behind his shoulders. He ran about 30 yards and piled up.
We skinned him, took some meat, then Alan dropped Roy and me under the shade of a tree to have lunch, while he went to give the rest of the buffalo to the game scout station.
We had lunch, then Alan returned, and we headed back to camp.
It was Nelson’s birthday last night, and a chocolate cake was prepared for the occasion.
This morning both us and Walter were after buffalo. Apparently they saw some duggaboys yesterday, but it was too late to do anything about it.
About an hour out of camp, we saw the tracks of 2 duggaboys, and followed them. It was very impressive to watch our trackers keep track of them on very bad ground. At one stage we got into thick grass. And the trackers staid within a 100 yards circle for over half an hour. Covering 540 meters according to my GPS!
Eventually they managed to find which way they went, and we continued after them.
We saw them walking down in a valley, almost downwind of us. We had to make a quick dash running to detour to the side, and get downwind of them.
We were on a hillside, and all we could see was one, which was not clear, across the gulley about 100 yards away. While trying to maneuver to get a clear shot, we saw the other one, which was in a better position for a shot. I fired a shot at him, and he took off. We were trying to see where he got to, when suddenly we see a third bull on our side of the hill walking straight for us. He was unaware of our presence, but the game trail he was on we were on too, just slightly higher. I turned around and tried to shoot him, but there were too many trees in the way. When get to about 20 yards, his head was clear and I put a bullet in him. He dropped in his tracks.
We left him and tried to finish our original bull, and may be shoot the third one too. Our bull was struggle on his feet, and another shot put him down. The second was close by, and I shot that too.
So we had three old duggaboys down, when we thought there were only two.
We got the truck and put them all together for photos, loaded one in our truck, and headed back to camp. Leaving our trackers to skin one.
Alan and Rene went out to get them, while Roy and myself are holding the fort.
We put some bones across the river from the camp for the vultures.

Thank you - (fresh blood right!?)
The sarcastic comments are mine and is a result of over 15 years of wonderful madness, so as previously mentiond: lets see how long I last here at AR once administration is back from the djungle.
I never intended to start here at AR, but Walters little Dynamite prank and subsequently the hole in my husbands leg, left me no choice. Hessa and I agreed, that if anyone messes with our fabulous Saeed - its big trouble- and we are having SO much fun preparing a dish best served cold: Revench.
Hessa should have the credit for the increase in the "before and after" photos ie. of live animals and surroundings, she requested it.

SaeedLadies and Gentlemen,
Just a reminder that there are 8 individuals taking photos on this hunt, including me.
The photos posted are selected from everyone's camera.
Walter prepared one of his famous BBQs for us tonight, and we all had a great feast.
Tomorrow we are going to try and see where we get with the croc.
We just hope Fred, Gladis, George, Fred and Joseph Stalin - we called him this because he chases everyone around - would not get too curious and come too close to us.

SSG PoliceSheikh Saeed,
Great photos, and great hunt. I can not wait until I get the videos. Thank you in-advance. Good luck on the rest of your hunt.

Saeed,
Great photos no matter who took them. This thread has made the Selous a long term dream for me.
A triple on buffalo....wow!
The last pic of Walter...perhaps further explanation on how he has managed to shoot his fingers.
Have a safe remainder of your time in that wonderful place and journey home.

Use Enough GunFantastic photos as usual Saeed! Walter with the pink flipper crotch is so appropriate! The dinner setting reminds me of what your wife Hannah and daughter Hessa have planned for Walter upon his return. As she has said: ". . .we are having SO much fun preparing a dish best served cold: reven[ge]."

Great hippo names!

Catapult, wrist rocket, slingshot (inappropriate but colloquial), other unprintabel names come to mind.

RIPWalter will feel like "fresh meat" himself, when he lands in Dubai!
Revenge by H&H: Hanna and Hessa
So what bit off the buffalo's tail?
Was it a lion or another dynamite trick from Walter?
Yes Walter can be careless with those fingers, and the slingshot reminds me of Dennis the Menace from childhood TV.
Walter the Menace!
Yet he looks so harmless in this "sleepia-tone" photo.
Rene has been photoshopping?
