Man eaters of Simanjiro maul three children by Joseph Lyimo The Arusha Times Grazing near wildlife conserved areas could be as dangerous as jumping into a den of vicious animals in a zoo. Three children, Lengule Kimbo Kisai (10), Zimana Kisai (4) and Legurati Otuka Lemadu (14) of Narakau village in Orborsiret ward have been killed and eaten by lions near the Tarangire National Park. The grisly incident occurred on July 13. Narrating the incident to news reporters, the Manyara Regional Police Commander Permena Sumary said the children were grazing livestock on Kuriet hills near their village when they were attacked by man eaters. Parents of the children realized that something had gone amiss on that fateful day when the livestock returned to their enclosures without being herded home by the children. The children were no where to be seen for two days but eventually their remains and cloths were found after an intensive search by the villagers helped by the Tarangire National Park Game Scouts and the Police. Sumary called on t pastoral communities in the district and other areas to avoid using children as animal herders in dangerous surroundings such as national parks and game reserve areas. That would be the boundary village between Luke Samaras and Bundu - Uh Oh....the Simanjiro lion population is in deep shit! The RPC's request will fall on deaf ears - the Masaai have been using their offspring as shepherds since early times and is part of their tradition. Somewhat ironic that when a lion or leopard does the dirty work it hits the headlines - snakebites which are more common and nearly always fatal are never mentioned. | |||
