gerrybi have hunted with them several times. if you want PM me and i can get back to you
I have not hunted with them but am good friends with one of there former PH's and well aquainted with one of there current PH's...Paddy Curtis.
I don't think you would find any better outfit to hunt with certainly many as good. If I were gonna go with them...I would request Paddy for my PH...very colorful character with many good stories to tell...NOT a more experienced or knowledgeable PH out there.

Paddy "Blood" is a very good friend of mine too. He is an excellent PH, and I would love to hunt with him. Tanz is in my future-- just dont know when. Luke has an excellet rep.. Should be a great buff hunt!

That's pretty funny that you dropped a Bela reference, Biebs. Believe it or not, he has hunted all over the world and is an avid shooter. He hunts with me 3 or 4 times a year and lives on a good-sized ranch here in Texas. He's a great guy to share camp with, but not as good, I would bet, as Nadia in her day.

415sbairdI hunted Masailand with Paddy Curtis in October 2008.
My big mistake was not booking a hunt longer than the 10 day minimum.
It was that great!

Paddy is one of my all-time favorite PH's, too, Jack. You shot some great animals on that trip.

Ahmed SultanWe have hunted the Luke Samaras' Massailand area in 2008, very good area for big buffalo, you can see the hunt report on the following link:
http://forums.accuratereloadin...=668104998#668104998Try to time your hunt when the park buffalo is out in the hunting concession i.e. July or December.

Idaho SharpshooterI have a question. Is Samaras that much better at finding trophy animals for his clients, or is he becoming a status symbol? He charges a lot more than many others, and I am trying to figure out why. I mean no harm, I's just curious...

craig boddingtonI've hunted with Luke Samaras twice, wish I'd hunted with him many more times. A class act, a true gentleman, a superb outfitter. He has done an exceptional job of managing his areas, and they remain very, very good. Have a great hunt! Regards, Craig

craig boddingtonUnless things have changed a lot, Luke Samaras is much less expensive than many TZ operators. TZ is a damned expensive country, but I doubt Luke is anywhere near the top in prices. I could be wrong about that, it's been a while since I hunted with him.

Jerry HuffakerHere's two huge bulls a customer of mine shot with Luke Last December. I hunted with Luke about 5 yrs ago and can't say enough good things about the whole operation.

studdogWe researched all the major outfitters before booking with Luke. He's in the upper middle of the Pack pricewise but offers a great value for the money. Many repeat clients and great references. We'll let you know our experience after our Sept hunt. studdog

studdogReteever, There will probably something I forget to pack. I'm betting it won't be ammo.

REMN JRThe list prices on Samaras' Selous and Masailand hunts are the same, making (i)his Selous hunts slightly more expensive and (ii)his Masailand hunts a lot cheaper ($20,000 + for a 21 day hunt) than similar hunts from the other major outfitters. He has run a number of specials on his Selous hunting the last couple of years though so I would guess that even his Selous prices are now no more than average for Tanzania.
Best of luck on your hunt, Studdog. Hunting buffalo in Kitiangare's thick stuff is exciting and Luke's staff is wonderful.
Regards,
Richard
Thanks for all the replys. Now we just gotta make the dates work.
Oh well, the dates didn't work.........
Gotta make a new plan!

I have no idea weather he's better or not at finding animals. He does have some experienced PHs and some of the best concessions in the Selous and Masailand. He's a hell of a lot more money than any operator in Zimbabwe or Mozambique, but he's relatively inexpensive by Tanzanian standards. Especially so when you take into account the reputation and history of the company with the quality of his concessions.

I've seen the exact opposite of this, Rich. Samaras is MUCH cheaper in my experience.

Why are his prices on the upper end?
Consistent quality.

AnotherAZWriterHere is my reference for Samaras:
Book with him now!
I am going again in 2011. I think it was one year to the day I shot an elephant and a leopard on the same day. Got a lion 8 days later. In between shot two buff and a fantastic eland.
I got lucky, but I really liked his operation. Only criticism: I don't like having to buy my beer. Oh, I think I gained weight too.
PM me if you want to chat wabout my observations. Notlim also had a great hunt.

Oryxhunter1983My friend, Vince Hazen, I think is hunting with him in like month, He's on AR, and I know he'll be posting a story, so be on the look out, he's taking a full bag BIG 4...lucky GUY!

BlacktailerMrs Blacktailer and I hunted with Luke in the Selous in 07. Just before we booked with him there had been a dust up here on AR about someone who booked a hunt with another outfit and it got all buggered up because that outfitter did not control the concessions that he was booking hunts on. I asked Luke if he controlled his concessions and he told me that he had been leasing the same concessions since Tanz reopened hunting (something like 30 years now). That is probably at least partly responsible for the quality of Luke's concessions. His PH's have been hunting the same areas for years and he practices aggressive anti poaching and runs a class act.
