fairgameSome encouraging news from Zambia
African Parks who is managing the Bangweulu swamps have been given the go ahead to hunt this year. Good news for those who want Sitatunga, Black lechwe and Tsessebe.
For me this is very encouraging as Royal Kafue is almost an exact model and one that unites the private sector with communities.
Very encouraging indeed.

bwanamrmGood news indeed. Best of luck Andrew!
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

By Peter Adamu, 11 March 2013
Tourism minister Sylvia Masebo has now shifted the blame to donor agencies for the problems that the wildlife sector was facing, saying the pledges they made were not honoured.
Zambia is seeking the help of Germany to recapitalise the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) in order to serve the sector from the operational problems it is currently facing.
The minister, on appointment, immediately fired management and dissolved the board alleging corruption and incompetence but in her latest troubleshooting mission is now shifting the blame to donors.
Masebo says ZAWA needs to be urgently recapitalized and restructured in order to survive the hurdles it was facing.
She was speaking in Berlin during a meeting with Germany development funding agencies.
Masebo told the donor funders that lack of institutional capacity arising from financial challenges makes it difficult for ZAWA to execute its mandate of looking after wildlife.
"I don't have the answer (to the problems facing ZAWA) so that is why I have brought this on the table so that you help us. We can work together and I am sure that you have this practice elsewhere.
"If you ask ZAWA to explain their problems they will blame the donors. They will say you gave us a lot of false promises. At the time when the wildlife sector was being transformed as a structural body, ZAWA only had 3000 workers on the ground. The planes, the vehicles, the entire transport system collapsed," she said.
And Masebo claimed that the PF government will create 300, 000 jobs in the tourism and hospitality industry this year alon.
She said frantic efforts were being made to create more jobs in the creative and arts sector.
Masebo told Zambians living in Berlin to help woo tourists to the country's tourism destinations.
