It looks like there might be some hope in Tanzania and that they are finally going to discuss coming up with a resonable fee structure in Tanzania. Got this e-mail today from TAHOA and looks like they will start serious negotiations very soon to come up with a final answer. I do not know any other facts at this time as you can see nothing has been settled yet, but looks like a sensible solutionn will follow soon. For those of you who are booked in Tanzania or thinking of booking in Tanzania, make sure that you book with outfitters who are members of TAHOA for your own sake.

"Dear TAHOA Members, and members of the hunting industry,

I have the honour to inform you that, I got a notification from The Private Secretary to H.E. The President of The United Republic of Tanzania ,that, following the petition signed by almost all hunting companies and other Tourist hunting Institutions. The Office of The President has directed that TAHOA on behalf of all hunting companies has to sit with The Hon. Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism in order to resolve the issue of Block fees and Trophy Fees as announced in GN. 159 dated 29th June 2007 and promulgated on 11th July 2007.

I intend to contact the Hon. Minister for possible dates when he will be available.

I also want to use this opportunity to thank all hunting companies for their co operation and patience which has been demonstrated in these difficult times when companies has been confronted by clients who would like to know the fate of their safaris. TAHOA's position has been to hold what is considered legitimate until a the situation is resolved through negotiations.

Best Regards
A.I.Mohamed
TAHOA Secretary General"

Sorry to hear that, I'm rcently back from just north of there....the fires were all over the place. Many people killed, 100,000's acres burnt. So much smoke in the air.

I really have zero doubt he is telling the truth (which is of no consolation at all).

But please tell more of the where/when/$$ on the Nyala....that is No.1 on my list for the next time.

Count experiences, not possessions.
