I have been given options on hunting a new area in North west Mocambique. This area is called Chipanje Chetu and is west of the Niassa National Park. Area is pretty much undeveloped in terms of infrustructure but is moving forward in this regard.

Area is reported to have good Leopard, Sable but limited Buffalo. Other plainsgame includes Lich haartebeest, Eland, Kudu, Zebra, Bushbuck,Reedbuck, Warthog, bushpig, duiker and grysbok.

Are any members interested in hunting this block in 2007? The season will start in July.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Sounds like a great wild area for an exploratory safari.

Be carefull. There is a posting by Ganyana about the shakedown of a few hunting concessions that does not fall in the orignial "coutadas" or hunting areas set out by the government. Mozambique can be a minefield , and you will lose a lot if you are not carefull. Check the outfit out VERY good, and get confirmation in writing that they hold hunting rights to the area from the CENTRAL government.

Best of luck

Hi Guys,

My apologies for the delay in responding but have been travelling.

This deal is completely legal and owner, through a tender last year has a hunting quota from the relevant Authorities. I was given the species available for hunting ( which starts in 2007) off their quota by telephone.

I have personally never been to this particular block but have been on the east of Niassa.500grains - thanks for the photo. The terrain is more mountaineous than the eastern blocks, Graham but has a diverse habitat ranging from mountains to Zambezi Valley type country.I am not sure of Lion,Elephant in the area but there are none on quota.

The word from them is that there are good Leopard and good Sable populations but Buffalo and certain plainsgame species may be challenging. In that vein he advises me that I can sell 4 x 14 day leopard/ sable/Plainsgame hunts @ $ 800/day + trophy fees. If you shoot a Buffalo there is a $ 200/Day upgrade. So its not cheap but as this area has not yet been commercially hunted I would say that it should produce some good quality trophies. Of interest - the Sable are Roosevelt Sable and there are a species of Zebra described as Boehm's Zebra.

It will be a great hunt for someone who has hunted Zim, Zambia etc etc and is looking for something new , wild and challenging.

I will be in Reno and anyone can call me in the US on cell 231 288 5566 until 5 Feb before I go home.

I have just received an updated information on this area and I was slightly off the mark with some details - sorry. I spoke with the operator today and have the following updates :

Area WAS previously hunted by a Rui Robocco . The area went to tender last September and was allocated legally. There is a contract and legal quota . To confirm this contact Vernon Booth ( ex Zim National Parks) on swallow1@mweb.co.zw who mediated in the tender process.

There are 2 Elephant and 1 Lion on quota. Also hippo, Croc,Hyena, Waterbuck. Elephant are reported to be a tough hunt and clients need to be fit - no vehicle hunters . There have been some 60 - 75lb tuskers seen. Area is 6500 sq km in extent.

Camp will be teneted under thatch with generator. Best route in will be to JNB and onto Harare .Aircharter from there to Lichinga to clear Customs and then 25 mins charter to camp. Have a helicopter and 1 fixed wing for emergencies, also HF radio and sat phone communications.

Call me

It will be in the Niassa province, way up north ... (To the left of the Niassa Reserve on this map)

Since we're on the map, our hunting area (Coutada 10) is adjacent to the Marromeu Buffalo reserve - about in the middle of the map, north of Beira - Sofala province.

A picture to get your hormones on a quiet little route march. If you understand Sable lingo, this bull said "Eat your heart out bwana, 'cuase I know you have no more Sable left on quota ..." ( Wink

To rub it in ... I wonder if this was at 50 yards.

We'll go in June. Make time.

There has been lots of talk about the quotas having been cut back in many areas in Mocambique. Chipanje Chetu quota is official and has not been affected in any way. I spoke to the operator yesterday and he confirmed this to be so.

Hi Andy, with Big5 retaining Chewore North, it looks like you will still be able to offer those "Backpack Buffalo Hunts" in the hills as well! thumb

Hi Bill,

I am still hunting in Chewore - they have a few Tuskless left but will probably be gone by the end of SCI.

As for backpacking - absolutely - I am in 2642 if you want to talk about this a bit more.
Its the ultimate way to hunt. I had a member hunt Buff with me last May- it was great.
