I suffer the ill fortune to be the owner of a video entitled "In the Face of Death" starring an actor named Mark Sullivan. Quite frankly, it sucks. It is 90 minutes of the actor standing in the middle of a pan talking B.S., with some brief snippets of his past videos spliced in. It looks like there was no new hunting filmed to make this video. I wonder if he took a year off from hunting but still wanted to make a video?

Hey .700,

Did you see this thread?

https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1411043/m/242105452

It sounds like your kind of hunt, with numerous elephant being reserved for the discerning sportsman. I wish it were me...

500grains,
I did a quick web search under "With Deadly Intent" and couldn't find the video. Can you point me in the right direction?

SBT,

"With Deadly Intent" (c) 1999 Qwatah Productions and Joseph B. Lee. The tape lists 1 800 817 8803. I forgot where I bought it.

Note: Avoid the Capstick videos because they are boring.

Outdoor Visions

I had that video, it is pretty good one.

If you don't have it, I can send you a VHS copy of that elephant hunt that was on the Outdoor Channel a few months ago. If you watch in slow motion just as the hunter shoots, you will see how much the shot angle changes as the elephant moves its head. No wonder frontal brain shots are so difficult.

Regards,

Terry

Regardless of whether you agree with the ethics of it or not. Mark Sullivans footage is the greatest library of animal charge footage available and would serve well to put any DG client "in the picture" so to speak of what eventualities they may face. Once they have finished reading endless journals of days gone buy and have romanticised their hunt to hell and back, I think at the very least it might steel their nerve and give them some respect for these not so poetic beasts.
"In the face of death" also makes a few very good ponts, one that springs to mind is the detailed description of buffalo charge behaviour and the falacy that buffalo charge with their noses held aloft. We actually reccomend some of his footage to Trails Guides on their way up to SKS as they are the guys who may only ever be required to shoot once in a lifetime, but better know their stuff when they do as they are the last line of defence.

On this subject, if you were advising people on some "worst case scenario" footage. What would it be. Education wise, is there anything out there that comes to mind. Lets be specific and focus on Buff and Hippo

Vlam makes a very good point here.

There may come a time in your live when...

THIS IS THE DAY

WHAT YOU DO IN THE NEXT FEW SECONDS, depends on whether you live or DIE

I had watched all of the Mark Sullivan videos avialable at the time, SEVERAL TIMES, AND STUDIED THE TECHNIQUE HE USED, starting with his first video, where he was suprised by the buff charge, progressing through the videos in order and seeing how he developed and refined his technique....

I HAD STUDIED THE VIDEOS VERY HARD.

Then...

I recieved a phone call, ordering me to report to a certain location...

Shortly after I arrived, I realized,

THIS IS THE DAY

I was charged by a Gorilla from 12 yards, firing when he was at @6 yards and dropping him at my feet.

There is NO DOUBT in my mind if I had not seen and studied Mark Sullivan's tapes, I would have been killed.

I might have shot too soon,or maybe tried a body shot.

I would highly recommend anyone going to Africa, or on a big bear hunt for that matter, to study Mark Sullivan's tapes.

You will never know when,

THIS IS THE DAY

If you are not prepared for it, it just might be your LAST DAY.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! How did you get into a situation like that with a gorilla? I have heard that they can become violent when injured. Interested to know more.
Thanks
Ian

Buzz Charlton's elephant video is a good one.

Adrook

I recommend you study all of MS's videos. Watch them in the order they were filmed the first time.

Hi Tony
Mike filled me in on the details. That is quite amazing to have been in that situation and having had the right mental tools to do the job. 90% software 10% hardware I like to say.
I will be sure to pass this on to Mark, he is sure to be happy to hear it.
Good hunting
Ian
