Well the one I watched the guy had a beard, long hair in a pony tail, shorts, he was "armed" with toilet paper that he said he would throw to distract the lion if things got dicey.

Probably the same one you saw. I didn't notice the toilet paper in the first viewing, but I saw he was about to throw something near the end.
Waste of good toilet paper, if you ask me. If the lion didn't fall for such a questionable ruse, the others could have used it to clean up what was left of the guy.
