My wife and I took our drillings to Zimbabwe. We both have Sauer 3000 12x12x30-06's hers with a 4x Kahles scope, mine with a S&B 1.1-4x, bothe in claw mounts.

I thought I was going to be MR DRILLING IN ZIMBABWE. I had Federal factory 180 Woodleigh Softs for the '06 bbl, Brenneke KO slugs, oo/o and #4 buck, BB shot and #6 shot.
I was hoping to shoot all manner of game with it.

I did manage to shoot some guinea fowl, francolin, doves, sand grouse and some ducks with it, as did the wife.

However she showed me up big time.

One day when we were shooting Guinea fowl Donza spots a nice kudu, she bags it with the '06 bbl.

On another day while I was hunting in a leopard blind, she is out hunting guinea fowl, she shoots a MONSTER warthog with the '06.

I guess that is OK as her drilling is her favorite hunting gun.

N E 450 No2,

A drilling is the answer! I have an old, but 100% condition, Sauer in 16X16&7X65R topped with a good scope in claw mounts. The rifle is EXTREMELY accurate, but you have to let the barrel cool down completly if you want to get very good groups. With this single drilling I can act as PH for any wingshooting or plains game client. The previous owner even killed an elephant in India with it many years ago. But that is his secret story!

In good hunting.

Until people spend time in the field hunting with one they do not realize how good a hunting gun it is.

I think I now need a double rifle drilling in 9,3x74Rx9,374Rx20ga.

It would be just the thing for bear [black & brown] and grouse/ptarmagin hunting in NA, and good in Africa too.

With my Sauer Drilling 16/70 - .30-06 (180 Nosler Partition) I shot over 30 bushpig and more than 60 bushbuck so far! Mounted is a Zeiss 2,5 - 10 X 52. Ideal for hunting bushpig at night, just with the additional help of the moon. Never used spotlights for hunting.

What you have been doing with a quality big objective diameter scope is "hunting"! Wink

Shooting at night with a spotlight is "killing" and can not be described as "hunting"! shame

One cannot cure:

Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules!

Since most feral hog are nocturnal, shooting them at night is an acceptable method of hunting! Anytime you think that's "easy Kill'n", you should join us on one of our DRSS Hog Hunts!

I've got a 16x16x8x57 with a set of 16x8x57x8x57 barrels with a 2x Lyman Alaskan on it. A sweet setup for Grouse and Deer/Bear.

I used a Meffert 16/16/8x57JR this last trip to shoot a whole bunch of birds and some PG (story coming in African Hunter).

I had a problem with my gun...it shot loose probably due to doubling when firing the left first (I fixed that in the field) during hot and heavy bird shooting; and the looser it got, the lower and bigger the rifle bbl groups got.

I had it put back on the face upon my return. I have yet to shoot it to see where it groups now. My theory is that it will be high as I did adjust my scope (a vintage Kahles) to compensate.

The other point I would make is that it takes forever to reload the rifle bbl. The gun has to be opened fully, and the rifle ctg is a little tricky to grab due to its position.

However, it's still a nice setup if you are hunting a mixed bag. I will try it for elk/grouse in NA as well. And may take it to Argentina since our partner down there hunts both high volume birds as well as indigenous and exotic big game, all near Santiago Del Estero.
