Since I like lions and lion hunting so much, I just thought I would share this picture with you guys. My friend and long-time client Lary Knowlton from Dallas took this lion in late June 2009 with Richard Bell-Cross of Pro-Hunt Zambia Ltd. He arrived for his 21-day hunt the day after I left, and shot this huge maned lion on day 3 of his hunt.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Mark - Yes, Brett is correct. Lunga Luswishi in the NE corner of the Kafue Park. Luck seems to follow Lary everywhere he goes.

Congratulations to your friend. Looks like a great specimen. I am not sure I will ever return to Africa but if I do it will be to hunt lion. Your post sure adds to the fire.

Terrific Zambia Lion! They don't keep manes like that up north in the Zambesi Valley thorn bush. What did the skull field measure?

LionHunter - Don't know the skull size, but generally a big lion in that area is 24.5" - 25.5" on average.
