Could/Would a lioness count towards big 5
I may never get a chance to hunt a male lion, mostly due to price. Would a lioness count, technically speaking, toward the big 5?

yes it would, for the purpose of record book, sex is not an issue~ I'm in the same boat, and I'm more than likely going to shoot a female lion this year!

If you think the lion is bad, try the black rhino!

Sounds like maybe you just want to say you have the Big 5 and not the enjoyment of the hunt.

I did it 4 decades ago and rarely tell anyone unless they ask. I didn't see it as a big deal and still don't. I enjoyed the hunts, not the staus. To each his own.

Its all about the hunt. I was just wondering if it was or wasn't. I have several animals that will make "BOOK". I don't have any of them entered as I need no glory or status of my achievements. I have been over there several times now and want to hunt different things each time. The problem is, I always run out of money before I run out of animals to hunt. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with that problem

Who are you to assume he won't enjoy the hunt for a female Lion? As to claiming the Big 5, what's wrong with that? Does it hurt someone by saying one has the Big 5? Sorry but I don't get this attitude that your way, or anyones, is the "correct" way. Ridiculous! Everybody is allowed to follow their own path in this country and the amount of money you have to spend on your hobby is of no consequence.

It's because the lionesses are not prone to killing white folks, right? Just the males...

Yes it counts, just like Cow Elephants do. IIRC, the #1 Cape Buffalo is a female.

On a similar note would you folks agree that a female cape is the experience as to shooting a dugga boy

Again for me the experience is more important rather a trophy sitting on the mantle piece

Care you share your experience in the relation to cape cow or bull ?

Hell yes it counts. She can clean your clock worse than a leopard and she is smarter than a rhino. Is it the big full mane lion of everyones dreams? No. But she better get your respect and attention or she can make you pay. Plenty of headstones in africa attributed to her.

Well, that's what my son and I are doing this summer. Tuskless ele, cow cape buff, and a hippo. For me, it's all about the experience. I don't really need any more dust catchers, in my man cave. Big Grin

The only one who decides what the Big 5 consists of, is you!
