I have emailed some friends I have that live in that area and see if they have any local information on the circumstances.

I think the lawyer, M. Colcellini, was the owner of "the mountain view" game farm not far from Windhoek. mario

Whoever "treads on the Mafiosi's toes" may run but cannot hide forever. Sooner or later they will catch up with you unless you die of old age. This accident may be sheer coincidence but given the deceased's past involvement against the clan, nothing would surprise me.

What a shame. I have heard that the leading cause of death among tourists anywhere, including hunting tourists in Africa, is automobile crashes. Having driven through Otjiwarondo (not to mention Rome) many times, I am only too aware that this may be true. Namibia, in particular, is full of very long, very flat and very straight roads, which leads to very high speed and often not very good driving. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I have communicated with my friends that live nearby. One was on scene shortly after the crash occurred and assisted in traffic control. It appears this was a head-on crash between a smallish pick-up truck and a large ('40 ton') truck while both were at speed. One vehicle crossed over the centerline on a blind crest. There is no mention of alcohol involved but indications of one of the drivers having a medical condition in the moments prior to the crash resulting in the crossing of the centerline. The results were horrific and highly unlikely that it was staged or otherwise an intentional act.

I too have been told while in Africa that traffic conditions are extremely dangerous. No personal knowledge, but I have the impression that West Africa is particularly risky.
