I haven't had tv in 10 years, but this morning I was at the gym and there was a wildlife program on called "Austen Stevens Adventures" Couldn't hear the sound but the guy was sneaking up to take pictures of a large herd of elephant in an open meadow. I noticed that in the entire herd of 40-50 animals, there was not one animal with tusks. Seemed pretty unusual to me and wondering if anyone knows what that's about.

I'll bet it was in Gorongosa NP in Mozambique.

I used to watch his shows a lot when they first came out. If I remember correctly there is an episode in SE Asia where he is trying to get some photos of big tusker bulls. If it's the same episode it didn't show any ele's with tusks until the end. Austin is crazy though…one episode he caught/wrestled a giant burmese python in water Peter Andersen Peak Wildlife Adventures 1-306-485-8429 peakwildlifeadventures@hotmail.com www.peakwildlifeadventures.com

Asiatic elephant females are always tuskless. Some males are also tuskless and they are much bigger is size and are called "Makhna" in India. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Yes, Austin Stevens is a Steve-Irwin-wannabe who manages to make the most mundane wildlife encounters look dangerous. His patented mixture of clumsiness and melodrama, spiced with a healthy admixture of raw stupidity, sets him apart from the average animal-show host.
