I just checked the weather. It really doesn't look good. I am betting a bunch of people are going to get stranded coming and going.

My wife and I are going to the SHOT show in Vegas this year instead of SCI. We are driving, but that may not be any better than trying to fly into Reno this year.

Good to have a heads up! Sounds like great weather for those that want to stay and ski for a few days.

Last year I chose to fly into Sacramento and drive over the mountain for a much cheaper and schedule friendly flight. 4 wheel drive rental was a cheep but necessary upgrade.

Was iced in at DSC a couple years back, just the nature of North America in winter, but still one that wishes SCI would find an easier convention location.

Traffic control on I 80 always makes for a hassle. I use Hwy 44 out of Redding to Susanville, 395 to Reno. While it also has the snow/ice mess, the traffic is much lighter and my 4WD truck with studded snow tires makes it a non issue.

Tomorrow evening looks very interesting. I'll be coming up from Vegas and hoping that the flight isn't overly delayed by the snow and the wind.

I just went through Donner Pass last night. Had to chain up the minivan but at least I didn't have to eat anyone Big Grin. It looks like it'll be a lot worse travelling the next 3 days. I chose to skip SCI and am exhibiting at ISE in Sacramento this weekend.

MY flight to SanFrancisco was cancelled this morning, along with a lot of others into SanFran.
I'll be lucky to get to Reno at Midnight.
Always avoid SFO if possible. Ive been screwed up so many times by that airport I could scream.

When there is any inclement weather SFO has delays because their runway capacity is cut in half.

When I was commuting from Dallas to Redding the flights were never on time. Late leaving Dallas in the summer time because of T-Storms, late in the winter because SFO was screwed. Sure wish flights to Redding went through SMF.

I made the same decision this morning. I hope I can get past Willits and Rattlesnake Pass in the morning. I hope to make Sacramento by 3 or 4 as I cannot leave as early as I like. Maybe we can meet up Friday morning?
Let me know.

Anyone else going to Sacramento instead?

Based on the HUGE amount of rain we've gotten today, I don't think anyone will be going over Donner Pass anytime soon. It has poured for hours here in Folsom, just east of Sacramento.

Sacramento ISE show starts tomorrow, but is not at all like SCI in Reno.

Frank if you'll be at ISE I'd like to meet up for sure.

DLS you're right ISE is nothing like SCI, but then again nothing is like SCI.
