The south is more developed than the North, lots of input from SA. Coming out of 20 plus years of unrest means it has a long cleanup ahead, however. I have little expereince there except the very south for a holiday. I know two guys who live (lived - I am not sure at the moment?) in Maputo for some years and enjoyed it..

Aaron,

Having driven virtually from the very top down to the bottom of Mozambique, I would say that we enjoyed being there very much. In fact, we liked it so much that we ended up overstaying our visa period by mistake, because time just seemed to fly while we were there!

North of the Zambezi, you will find that fuel and anything besides the most basic food is often hard to find, but then it's like that in many other African countries too.

We sometimes regret not taking a job offer we got while there, and everyone we know who has worked there enjoyed Mozambique a lot. And they all look forward to returning. People in Mozambique are also quite genuinly friendly IMO, at least compaired to what you'll find in some of the nabouring countries.

It'll take some time before it's on the same level as some other southern African countries, but on the otherhand, it seems to be going upwards, rather than downwards.

Speaking a bit of Portuguese is required though if you want to make things a little easier. Not many people in general speak much, if any, English.

Thanks for your info... I lived in Windhoek for a while (3 years) but if I go back I want something a little less civilized. Thanks.

The place has much to recomend it if you dislike big brother watching! Only know chunks of the north- you need to be organised and self sufficient. If you speak any Zulu/Sindebele you can get by. Find that if I shout loudly enough in English and wave a rifle arround, people generaly understand what I want done Big Grin

Hi Aaron,

I have hunted in Mozambique on a professional basis and am very familar with most parts and the ins and outs. My family and I also spend most Decembers there for a month of game fishing in the Mozambique channel.

My most recent sortie into Moz was a few months back and it still remains one of my favourite places. Drop me a email and I'll send you my "country guide to Moz"

Regards

We operate a large hunting area in Moz. It is not the easiest place, still showing the effects of a drawn out civil war. BUT, it is a lovely country with friendly people. And fine hunting ...

Let me know if you need to know anything specific.
