Mchoteka fisherman mauled by crocodile

Telela Chigwaja (46) of Mchoteka Village, Tunduru District has been mauled by a crocodile when he was fishing in Ruvuma River with his brother Abdallah Chigwaja.

According to Abdallah Chigwaja, the reptile grabbed Telela by the arm and dived with him never to surface again.

He added that the tragic incident occur.red at about 8am on May 28.

He said he was numbed by shock and was helpless because there was no one nearby, but later some villagers, led by the Ward Executive secretary, Zuberi Kanyomwa, launched a search for the remains of the victim but found nothing.

He said they later reported the incident to the game department of the ministry of natural resources and tourism for assistance so that they could hunt down the man eater but there has been no response so far.

The District Game officer, Dickson Koishwa, admitted to have received the request from the village and that his office was in the process of sending an armed game warden to hunt down the beast.
