My wife is begging me to take her to Africa. She wants a kudu and an oryx. I wouldn't mind shooting a couple of plains game as well. We are thinking of going to Namibia due to better airfare and better trophy rates. We are not looking for gold medal quality animals just good representatives of each species. Do you guys have any recommendations of PH's or maybe even so pointers for some first timers?

My email is dexter.grayson@yahoo.com if that works better for communicating

Depends on when you are planning to go. Namibia is currently in the grips of a pretty bad drought. There are game animals around, but you better plan for a longish hunt to find them. Pretty stark and dry at the moment.

I would suggest that you look at South Africa as you will find the animals you are after, and will see a lot more animals depending on where you go. You will have a better opportunity for a successful hunt there.

I ended up buying some bases Alaskan Arms had for a Mauser, which lets me use their rings. I have had them on several rifles, but they work really well.

I have had very good luck with Diethelm and Katja Metzger with Makadi Safaris!

Suggest you check with Nick Nolte in Namibia. He and Isabel run an outstanding operation with access to many large properties that can undoubtedly give you good chances at any plains game of interest. His facilities, equipment and firearms are excellent. You can make travel a lot easier by using one of his rifles. Doubt you would want to hunt cats on your first trip, but he is also one of the most successful Leopard PHs in the business...

Good hunting,

I went to Limcroma Safari, in SA twice. It is primarily an archery hunting operation, but they will take gun hunters.
The game, food, and accommodations were all top shelf. As are almost all SA safari outfits, it is high fence, but they may have open range as well.
If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Makalaan in Namibia is worth a look. Was there in June and it seems the drought did not take a toll. Family run. Wonderful people.

Kudu plus oryx ... sounds like Botswana is the place for you. Visit Okavango while you are at it. You could also do Namibia or N Cape but check re drought.

Dexter,

Not sure if you get Safari magazine, but I received mine in the mail today and there is an article in it from a guy hunting with Tholo Safaris.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I can HIGHLY recommend Sebra Hunting Safaris, near Kamanjab, Namibia. I have hunted with Jan du Plessis, the PH at Sebra in 2012, 2013, 2015, and am returning in April 2017. The trophy quality at the ranches Jan hunts is outstanding, his rates are reasonable, and the food his wife Mariesje cooks can best be described as gourmet+. Here are some pictures from my 2015 hunt with Sebra:
