Dear E-Mail Extra Subscriber Mark H Young, Bargain Hunt Board Two Hunts Available Click Here It's not 100 percent official yet, but it appears that the Tanzania hunting community and the Tanzanian Government have come to an agreement about those huge fee increases that were imposed on the eve of the 2007 hunting season. The increases, you'll recall, envisioned a quadrupling or quintupling of concession fees and an astronomical hike in some trophy fees - elephant from $5,000 to $15,000 and lion and leopard from $2,500 to $12,000 each. The agreement is not going to make everyone happy because it does call for a fee increase this year of about 50 percent on concession fees and about 15 percent on trophy fees. For sure, some smaller companies are going to pass those increases on to their clients, too, causing some hunters to balk at paying more than they agreed to pay when they booked their hunts. Most larger companies, we understand, will absorb the agreed-upon fee increases and ship trophies without asking for additional fees. Unhappiness of some clients aside, the agreement is very good news. It provides a workable solution to a problem that could have mushroomed into a hunt-closing catastrophe. It also avoids a bruising confrontation in the courts. We will have much more about the agreement in next month's issue of The Hunting Report. By then, or before, we hope to have news on what will happen next year as regards fee increases. Stay tuned. - Don Causey, Editor/Publisher. MARK H.
