Uganda: Buffaloes Kill One, Injure 7 in Bushenyi New Vision (Kampala) 28 August 2007 Posted to the web 29 August 2007 Chris Ahimbisibwe Kampala A HERD of buffaloes stormed Mwongyera village, in Katerera sub-county, Bushenyi killing one person and injuring seven. The deceased, Banarbas Ngabirano, 35, was attacked in his garden. A three-year-old boy, Jodan Gumisiriza and his grandmother, Karemesia Bakunda, were admitted at Comboni Hospital in Kyamuhunga sub-county. Others who sustained injuries were Aidah Keneth, Dezi Buzengi, Rozio Rushoronzya, Karungi Kamungura and the Nyakanengo LCI chairman, Francis Ndere. They are admitted at Mbarara University Hospital. The Katerera sub-county LC3 chairperson, Levi Nkwasibwe, said all the injured were also attacked while cultivating. Bakunda requested the Government to assist them pay the hospital bills. The villages where the incidents occurred are near Queen Elizabeth National Park. Wild animals have several times invaded the communities, injuring people and destroying crops. The Uganda Wildlife Authority digs trenches to block animals from attacking the residents.
