Doug Scandroll hunts the Banguelu.

The biggest thing about hunting the black Lechwe is finding the right one amoung 300 in a herd. The sitatunga is a hard, time consuming, wet hunt, however! Fine animal, and one you don't see in every trophy room!

..........Good hunting thumb

.458 even though I said I wouldn't post, I hate to see a fellow member of the clan waste time. Advise your client to not hunt Sitatunga in Bangweulu. Do a fly by one day stop for black lechwe on your charter from Tondwa GMA Zambia. Still 100% on Sitatunga. (DuPlooys)

Check out the outfitter discouted hunt forum. There were two recent post by outfitters for sititunga hunts in Zambia. Both are very successful. I would speak to the agents and see what they have to say.

May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Brett,
The problem with Bangweulu, is the chief sets the quota way too high. I went in 2004 9 days never saw a male Sitatunga. Tondwa with the duPlooys (100%) or Richard Bellcross in the Kafue area are (I think 100%) The people hunting Bangweulu will give you disinformation regarding success rate. I'm not an agent, no skin in the game.

Exactly and those are the two offers I was reffering to. Aron and Mark posted them on the discount hunt forum. I didn't mention Bangweulu.

Chip is 100% correct on this. Brett is also right on as I believe the hunt on the other forum is with Mr. Bellcross.

When I hunted the Kafue flats(blue lagoon) these areas were run by the gov't., including Banguelu, and any outfitter with proper credentials could take you there. Lately both areas have been leased to one person, who is controversial at best, according to some. The prices have more than doubled, but if you want a lechwe, black or Kafue, you pay your 5 grand and your charter and do a one day in and out hunt.

The difference between a good one, and a really good one, is often how much the horns curl fwd near the tips.

Good luck!

Terry von Royen shot one last year at 36" real narrow but really really long. I think it was #1 RW and # SCI (I think). The road is fixed now also, its only a couple hours from lusaka instead of all freakin day. Try 8 hours in a hot old beaten rover with Abie duPlooy once, your life will never be the same

So if I understand it, these are con artists and scammers selling hunts where there are no animals???

Does that mean D.S. is a con man?

Or is this chip fellow just a bit too rotund to get into a position to see game?

.458 the above posts are 100% correct and do not waste your clients time or money booking them to Banguelu for Sitatunga. Used to be a great area, but simply just not looked after and shot out. If you are lucky you would have a 10% chance at Sitatunga. The problem is that any outfitter in Zambia can book hunts in the area and there is no control and was just abused.

Black Lechwe on the other hand is just a 1 day hunt and only takes a couple of hours. Expensive charter down there for just a couple of hours, but the only way to do it. Had a 2x2 hunt last year and they chartered down there and got 2 Black lechwe in 2 hours and charterd up to Tondwa for the Sitatunga which they got 2 in 3 days plus the other game there.

Book them for a 7-day hunt in Tondwa and 1 day to Banguelu and they will be very happy. Contact Mark or myself.
