I am hearing a rumor that some prime safari areas are being lost to Chinese logging. There will be no hunting in those areas after 2025.

Has anyone heard anything about that?

Thanks!

Haven’t heard Chinese, but in the past, the Russians were logging and mining and there were problems, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Yes they are! And pretty much everywhere else they show up to exploit everything they can.

Been going on for years! Once the roads are built the poachers move in! Those forests are being cut at a huge rate. All will be gone soon.

When I was there last at the hotel there was a group of chinese men, two of them spoke fluent french.

Compare that to when i was in Burkina two Americans showed up from the consulate for a few days R&R. One was a surfer dude from CA first foreign posting and the other an old foreign services veteran who had been around. Neither of them spoke a word of French.

Point being that the Chinese are well prepared.

Lets not forget they are also one of the oldest traders in the world! They have been at this game a long time!

That's already done. They have the major road building and logging rights already.
They built many highways and the roads/infrastructure around Yaoundé airport as well.

When I was guiding in Cameroon (8years ago) that was already going strong and Chinese were everywhere. Buying mines and setting up construction companies. You'd drive into the most remote village, that nobody ever goes to, in southern Cameroon and there would be couple of Chinese hanging around. They were building a network of small shops in villages in the south, which I assume were use to get local influenced/dependency and smuggle things.

I had an official from the responsible ministry tell me: "the Chinese are really doing too much corruption, it's so bad"
To hear that from an official in Cameroon is really unheard of.
