Thank you, Nick.

It is said that 50% of India's landmass was either forested or wild at the time of Independence. Today it is a mere 2 to 3%.

When it comes to the environment, us Indian's have always found a way of buggering it up. Not just the forests, take our hill stations for example. Ooty is nothing more than a concrete jungle, jam packed with traffic.

One of our tiger sanctuaries, Sariska, has more or less confirmed the loss of all it's tigers to poachers. No doubt, they will now conduct a formal census and then probably even go through the sham of having a formal enquiry and so on. In the meanwhile our neighbours to the north will continue harvesting them for 'medicinal purposes' until there is nothing left.

Sorry to have gone off on a tangent.

Nickudu,

Respectfully, you are in error. There is only one possible answer that satisfies the criteria you set forth. See below.

Nickudu,

Rustam is absolutely right about tigers being wiped out in Sariska National Park. Johan has posted below about the same incident and there are the mail addresses of two officials who could do something. I would request all members who find time to please cut and paste the mail and send it to them or the tiger would soon be extinct in the wild in India.

Thank you for your posts about India's past. With your support here and a little action we should be able to make sure that the future is much better. If Kenya could bring wildlife stocks up to a position where they could be hunted again, I see no reason why India couldn't do this.

Good hunting!

Hmm. This thread keeps getting sidetracked. Allow me to right its course.

I Wan'na Be Like You
(The Monkey Song)
From "The Jungle Book"

Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
Performed by: Louis Prima [King Louie]

Now I'm the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle VIP
I've reached the top and had to stop
And that's what botherin' me
I wanna be a man, mancub
And stroll right into town
And be just like the other men
I'm tired of monkeyin' around!

Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You'll see it's true
An ape like me
Can learn to be human too

( Gee, cousin Louie
You're doin' real good)
Now here's your part of the deal, cuz
Lay the secret on me of man's red fire
(But I don't know how to make fire )

Now don't try to kid me, mancub
I made a deal with you
What I desire is man's red fire
To make my dream come true
Give me the secret, mancub
Clue me what to do
Give me the power of man's red flower
So I can be like you

You!
I wanna be like you
I wanna talk like you
Walk like you, too
You'll see it's true
Someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like me
Can learn to be
Like someone like you
Can learn to be
Like someone like me!

Now, how can anyone argue with THAT? jump
