Just watched this weeks episode of Uncharted and Jim and Ivan hit another one out of the park. Really enjoyed them telling and showing it just like it is in this part of Mozambique. This weeks footage in the Delta was spectacular. The Show just keeps getting better and better. Glad I have recorded each episode of this Season so far. Also watched Under Wild Skies and it was good as well. Haven't seen TAA in quite awhile, did it go by the wayside?

+1

They tell a good conservation story vs. whackm and stackm.

The delta is the perfect place to use drones with cameras.

TAA is still alive & kicking.
IMHO, it's the best show on the outdoor channel.

My takeaway ... it's over for wild animals simply due to the inexorable growth of the rural human population. Where there is "nyama" humans will poach, no matter what. The few animals that hunters shoot are not going to satisfy them. And they are not going to self police the poachers. That's pie in the sky.

Ted- the school visit was right up there for me to. Jim is the real deal. You could tell he was really into the kids thing. Several times I have had the opportunity to take SCI Blue Bags, filled with meds, school supplies and soccer balls for the kids right in that same area in Mozambique. It really is a cool thing watching the kids light up with excitement.

Sadly that may be the case. From my perspective the biggest threat to wildlife in Africa is the loss of habitat and the biggest threat to habitat is population growth. A couple of weeks ago I was pulling together some information and came across the following.

* Since 1955 the population in Africa has quadrupled.
* Since 1982 the population in Africa has doubled.
* Between now and 2050 the population in Africa is expected to more than double from 1.1 billion to more than 2.4 billion.

So when you see a figure in the latest issue of African Indaba that says that places like Kenya are losing wildlife habitat to agriculture at the rate of 8%/year, it is hard to be sanguine about the long-term prospects for wildlife in Africa.

BC - Just curious. I have Direct TV and check every other day or so through the complete program list on the Outdoor Channel to set up recordings for things I don't want to miss. Have not seen TAA on the list as to days, times of airing for at least three or four weeks I would say. Maybe they took it off Direct TV here in New Mexico? If you have access to air times let me know. Thanks.

I seem to recall that Dave Fulson once posted here that Tracks is on for the first half of the season, and Dark and Dangerous is on for the second half. Maybe Dave will weigh in and tell us if that is correct, or if I am again suffering from CRS syndrome.

Yes, Tim is correct. Tracks now runs Quarter 1 and 2 on Outdoor Channel, and Dark and Dangerous runs Quarter 3-4 on Sportsman Channel. This spreads out our African content. Unlike Uncharted, which has it's airtime provided by Outdoor Channel, thus is not dependent on advertising to pay bills, Safari Classics still exists on our networks on a Pay To Play basis, a far different proposition. OTC is trying a "Masculine Adventure" approach which features less pure hunting and more non traditional programming. Fair enough. Time will tell if that works. If my airtime were provided, our show would,I am certain, look different. But that is not the reality I face, and like all those reading this, my team wants to make a living at this difficult game and will continue to do our best at providing our type of programming to those that enjoy it.

I for one really like the format of Dark and Dangerous. I enjoy the multiple vignettes each week that carry over from week to week and Steve Hornady does a good job on the show intro.

Jim and Ivan hit a Grand Slam. Excellent production showcasing the issues of modern Africa and challenges facing wildlife. The Anti-poaching patrols are barely a finger in a leaky dike. But we must continue the good fight. Please support your outfitters that fund anti-poaching efforts.

+1 - if this quality of programming with Jim and Ivan continues, this show will be the new gold standard by which other African hunting shows are judged.
