Gents: the closest weather guesstimate I've been able to obtain is around Harare. Specifically, I'm looking for daily temps in northern Zimbabwe during the first week of June and down in the Lowveldt (SE of Bulawayo) about a week later. Been there in Sept when it was much hotter, but does a 45-75 degree (F) sound about right? jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I would expect the 45-75 to be close, actually it will probably get a bit under 40 and probably up to 80 . the lowveld will not be much different. Last 2 times I was in the lowveld in june it rained. but that is unusual. when the sun goes down it will cool down quickly, and warm up quickly as it gets above the trees in the morning.

It will be a lot hotter than Harare. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Jorge, I am doing the same thing this season, except the first two weeks of July. Dande North then down to Lemco (near Bulawayo). From Swainson's brochure (Dande North): June: average temps 82F to 54F, 0 days with precipitation, humidity 66. What concession are you hunting in the North? If the camp is on Lake Kariba, then the night time temperatures will be moderated by the lake to about 70F. Inland it will be cooler (mid 50s F). Sorry, I just saw the title to your post, your hunting Dande. Go to this website: BBC Weather and scroll down to the bottom. In the last paragraph, you will see links for Bulawayo, Harare and Zumbo (Mozambique which is just across the river from Dande North). From the BBC website: Bulawayo 70F to 45F and Zumbo 82F to 56F. Our camp in Dande North is in the southwest part of the concession away from the river, so I am trying to find the elevation for that camp to see if it is significantly higher than Zumbo. Regards, Terry P.S. The elevation at Zumbo is 1,125 feet. The elevation at Bulawayo is 4,400 feet. P.S.S. Found two small villages in the general are of our camp. Found the ICAO Code for the airstrips in those villages, but when I went to the ICAO information, the elevation was blank for both. I guess the charter pilots know the elevation (at least I hope so ). P.S.S.S. Found an elevation map on the internet, it looks like all of Dande is between 1,000 and 2,000 feet in elevation. Huh? It's going to be cold in the morning and hot anytime the sun is shining. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Jorge, I go to weather .com and enter Zimbabwe and they list the weather for areas all around Zim... Pahunter was in Zim in April or May and he said he froze..Needed gloves..I was there south of Dande, next to Matusadona Nat. Park and was cool but not cold unless you rode the top of the truck while we headed down the highway...I have Dudley Rogers of Tsabezi Safaris visiting me this Saturday and I will get the lowdown.. For local Dande North weather, do a google search for Kanyemba, Zimbabwe. There is a little weather station there and it is reported on a number of the online weather sites. Kanyemba is right there in Dande North. I was there at the time of the eclipse in June 2001 which I believe (without checking my file) was the end of the 3rd week and then the last week in June. I remember it was very chilly in the back of the truck when we headed out in the early morning. I had a 300 weight fleece jacket and I remember wishing it was heavier. I also had a stocking hat and gloves. But, that was only early in the morning AND in the back of the truck. The rest of the time the weather was beautiful. Wes

Thanks guys, lots of good info. Terry, the ICAO stuff was a great idea. I'll have to ask my PH, John Sharp, exactly where we land in or near Dande. I've also sent for some TCP charts to get a good feel for the lay of the land. The Weather sounds great, actually, a bit warmer than the temperatures in Harare. Hey Mike, give me a call after your vist with your PH. I'd like to hear what he has to say. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Jorge, I hunted there in '98 and it was cold enough in the morning and evening for a sweater and heavy jacket. Once the sun was up, it got warm and was very pleasant. By noon, we were in shirt sleeves, but you wanted your sweater and jacket coming in. One day, my brother left his jacket at lunch, and coming in, we had to take my jacket off, and put in on backwards with my left arm through the right sleeve and his right arm through the left sleeve. Sounds silly, but it kept the wind off of us, and it was cutting to the bone. We were down around Chinoye before we went up country, and it was about the same there. Good luck on your hunt. Kudude PS: Watch out for the thorns! They have a curved one that will take out a plug of meat if your get hit while on the back of the truck. kd
