Does all of the trophy fee go to the government or game management? Or does an outfitter or PH get a percentage of the trophy fee? What is that percentage? How can one obtain the exact trophy fees for the different African Countries? Is there a different trophy fee for the same animal taken from a different area within the same country?

It varies from country to country and within a country may vary from private property to public property or even res nullus, which means that nobody owns the animal. I would guess the outfitters in each country could give you a breakdown for their operations and would also guess that it varies widely. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

The trophy fee goes to the safari company. If the hunt is on private land, the safari company pockets the entirety if they own the private land. If they lease it, then some percentage goes to the landowner, depending on the individual contract. In some cases, the lease is a take-or-pay, ie the PH has bought and paid for the quota at wholesale as part of the contract and then he keeps whatever he can sell. Now on government land, or in communal areas, you have a different story and it varies by country. But it's safe to say most of it goes to the govt or the local community. That's why they send a game scout with you...to make sure they get paid for what you shoot (or wound). In Zim, it's even more complicated because some of the wholesale pricing (ie the contractual rate) is in Zim $ at some contractual exchange rate, and when the black market rate gets good, the Safari Companies end up keeping more of the USD...they can buy the Zim$ they need for less. In countries like Tanzania, the trophy fee is actually a licence fee and I believe all of it goes to the govt. But this is all moot...you the hunter pay according to the price schedule. What happens after that is really not your concern. I agree with the above. However in some countries, the safari companies mark up the trophy fees.
