I have been using a TX Hunt CO Ammo Belt for quite a few years, and it has been very tough and functional. My only complaint has been the sliding buckle system, and maybe a lot of that was due to my abdominal protrusion Confused!

I ordered two belts from Dick Murray in .416 and .470, an received them today. I am incredibly pleased with the quality, look, an feel of Dick's products. I am beyond pleased, and should shave listened to all you sages who have suggested Dick's belts for years. It will be hard to use my ele skin belt that is on its way home from Zim now...

.470 brass only...

I didn't know Dick from Adam's house cat when I first met him at a Park's office in Zim. He nor his P.H. had the right change for a permit so I gave him a twenty and some ones to get the right total so the excess $60 or so from his $100 wouldn't disappear.

I quickly forgot about it, but Mr. Murray sure didn't. He tracked me down in the States, sent me my money and a 5 round cartridge holder for my .308!

I've now got several of his products. Dick and his wife are my kind of people!!!

Tim: It must not be your belly 'cause this old fart still loves his Texas Hunt Company belt and even used it today (with a Murray cartridge holder) when shooting my cape gun. Big Grin

Here is my new one made by Les Matheson of Napier, New Zealand (thanks to OZhunter for the reference)

The belt has sliding slips.

I have ordered for 2 in 416 Rigby & 2 for the 9.3X62. I am still awaiting the others. I need to take this and try it out at the range before i use it in Africa in Sept.

I too have a couple of Dicks belts in 500 and 600. They are the best I have seen, period. I had dick do mine with open leather loops and the have worked well on my last 2 safaris .

Naki , your belt seems to be made of much lighter grade leather than dicks, and I think you will find it will be "floppy " when loaded with 2 sliding cartridge holders and ancillary knife and gps pouches etc.YOu should at the least wear the buckle to the side or back, this may help some.

Cheers

Nick

Tim - Just my opinion of course, but any good ammo belt / ammo holder should be open at both ends like the one in Nakihunter's photo above. The easiest/quickest way to get ammo out of the belt, and loaded into your gun, is by pushing it up from the bottom. But again, JMO. The work is nice and the belt looks great!!!!

EVERYBODY HAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS OF WHAT WORKS FOR THEM. I HAVE USED BOTH CLOSED AND OPEN BELTS AND PREFER THE CLOSED. I CURRENTLY USE BOTH DICKS BELT AND ALSO ONE FROM HEYM (ALSO CLOSED LOOPS) MADE FROM ELEPHANT. BOTH ARE VERY GOOD QUALITY!

I have a couple of dicks products and I'm quite pleased with them as well. I know they will last me until I pass them down to my son.

Thanks!

My belt is multi layered and stiffened in the middle. It is about 3 to 3.5 mm thick.

I checked out Les Matheson based on Ozhunter's recommendation - he has several big bores including doubles. I deliberately asked for the slips to be just 5 round capacity. So I guess it should be alright.

i am still trying to figure out why you need to carry 20 rounds of big bore ammo at a time- unless you are culling elephant/buffalo. being a senior citizen, i try to lessen the amount of crap i lug around, not increase it.....

I remember seeing a Youtube video of one of AR members running out of ammo for his double and borrowing the PHs .458WM to finish the elephant off. So, in a worse case scenario it might not be enough.

Tanks, my CZ 550 in 416 Rigby holds 4+1. So I guess I do not deserve my buffalo if I cannot anchor it with 15 rounds and the PH shooting as well! Wink

here are a few pictures of 13 of our commercial cull belts fabricated with 2 round pouches

the belts accommodate 375 flange 450-400 ne 500 ne and the 577 ne for double rifle rapid fire

one of the belts holds 4 of the 10 round 458 wm clips

the pouches are compressed with a 20 ton leather mold in the wet

and waxed hard after being sized to a bullet specific caliber specific STEEL mandrel we turned of on the lath

some hold 8 rounds some 20 and some are 10 in quick extraction pouches and 10 in typical belt loops for a 20 round carry

most of the belts feature a tension screw hardware system that can be set to adjust the pull tension with a Philips screwdriver some are single screw tension set and some are double screw [you can click on each photo to enlarge it and better see details]

some are light belts and some are of a saddle pack backing design [much like a bare back rig used to ride rodeo rough stock] this to effect a firm cinch for reliable bullet pull [the bigger your belly the better this design works one is sized at 60" and on the right guy it sits quite firm]

http://s181.photobucket.com/us.../?view=recent&page=1

I will continue to prefect the design and then use them in Australian on the buffalo cull hunt on the next trip down

one of the belts has the pouches canted on the backing belt system

this is a modification which we found to be quite effective it is set up for the 577 ne bullets [it is set for a left hand pull]

no need to run back for ammo with it as once you are saddled up you are packing 20 round on the belt and 2 up the tubes

we may add a Sam brown strap on the off shoulder if necessary but in the initial test it stays in place quite well and I am getting of as much as 8 shots in a single tire roll shoot event using the 500 ne

the 577 is a bit slower for some reason

the smaller double buckle strap system works the best on a wide belt system like shown

any way we are learning one belt at a time

this rig is much faster than a conventional cull belt design which is slow and harder to pull

the tension screws allow one to match the tension on all pouches and firm things up to function in a running fire fight

still a bit white rat but coming along<IMG class="inline_image" SRC="<IMG class="inline_image" SRC=" <IMG class="inline_image" SRC=" <IMG class="inline_image" SRC="

I've tried just about everything over the few years I have hunted Africa. I have one of Dick's belts for my .470, have a cheap canvas one I got from Cabela's that has a canvas slide that will hold more than enough ammo, also have one of the culling belts from Trader Keith's that I have yet to use. For my Double Rifles, there is a company in Utah that makes a slide that has room for 6 shells with space in between every 2 shells. It works well for the doubles.

I opted for a little bit of "old school, cool" and use a Mills Cartridge belt modified by my local cobbler to fit my 450NE and one loop just for a micro streamlight.

I seem to remember Texas Hunt Co making shell holders with elastic that had the shells spaced nicely apart. I can't find them on their web site. I guess they are discontinued. Should have bought them when I could.

Dick Murray's stuff is first rate. Beyond the slides and cartridge holders, one of the best thing he makes is his slings. Try one, you'll buy more. I've got a dozen or more.

LJS,
Found this on the Texas Hunt Company sight. http://www.texashuntco.com/Pro...ils.asp?ProductID=56
I believe that those are the elastic shell holders you mentioned. I have also found that if you call Texas Hunt, they may have what you want without it being on the website.
