Well, I have been contacted by SCI that I am qualified to receive the following awards:

World Hunting Award
Global Hunting Award
Hunting Achievement Award
Spiral Horn Antelope of Africa Award

Now, I only have to come up with $10,350.00 to receive the Bronze Awards. That's roughly one half of the cost of a safari. I don't think that I will respond to their offer.

Curious, have you not been submitting the trophies for entry in the record books?

I enter my animals from my first safari, maybe my second. That was a long time ago. One of my friends is actively involved in SCI at a high level. He told them about my trophy room. They bounded me for a while to have everything measured. They would send a master measured, etc. All I had to do was pay for it. F#%k them .

Hoot,

Congratulations! You must have done a lot of hunting to be qualified for those awards. I also agree that the money would be better spent on safari.

My black bear ended up #6 all time archery during the last recording period. They used to have an awards dinner at the convention where the top animal in each category were acknowledged but they stopped doing that this year. Not sure what they are doing with the top 10s anymore, but I did get the solicitation for a $2,500 bronze.

If it will make a buck, SCI will push it. After all, how else can the board of directors get all those trips here, there, and everywhere compliments of the club.

They are a couple hundred dollars apiece. They 5 species needed to qualify for the spiral horn award amounts to $1000 by itself. Add up all the other species needed for the bigger awards and it gets really expensive really fast...

Do you actually have to hunt all these animals or can you buy the award without proof (sci recorded animals in some record book)?

Very true words.

After reviewing SCI's rather lengthy requirements for all their awards, I would imagine being thankful for the health and wealth to hunt as much as you have would be a healthier and happier reaction to your 'award letter' than going out of your way to bash SCI for all their silliness. Unless, of course, this is just a humble brag thread.

How about this for a hunt award : A great day in the field after an animal you wished to hunt your entire life, friends made on safari, seeing a far away hunting land, an African sunset, memories of your first Safari, memories of your last Safari, all this for just the cost of Safari and SCI doesn't even have to know about it.

Everything to do with SCI and their silly awards is nothing but a bloody JOKE!

On my first safari, I think I shot about 20 odd animals.

Over 15 would have made the SCI record book, including a possible number 1 reedbuck.

They have elevated this utterly stupid contest to the level where people were actually breaking laws to get into one circle or another.

Glad you told them to stick it where the sun never shines!

What a bloody sorry organization that has become!

The lengthy lists and endless categories, along with the money required to play the game, pretty much tells you all you need to know about the SCI awards programs and the club in general. Self glorification is the name of the game.

I just looked at the awards program and the costs. With crap like this out there it is no wonder the antis are winning. I can, and have, successfully defended hunting in my classrooms to open minded listeners. I doubt I could ever win anyone to support hunting or even a stand of neutrality if I showed them a high priced awards program that glorifies the hunter for the amount he kills.
What an absolute joke. People who participate in this do a disservice to themselves and hunting. I thought I could never think less of SCI---until now.

No surprise there at all.

One of us has what little brains he has frozen solid in the cold of Alaska.

And has what little brains he has evaporated by the desert heat clap

Still, we do have common sense, unlike the deranged idiots from Wall Street, who have no sense of what hunting is, and will buy anything to have their names in a silly record book beer

I guess a little explanation is due. Yes, I have entered a lot of trophies in the SCI Record Book. A good friend of mine, Herb Atkinson, is one of the High Holys in SCI and was the Director of the Record Book. Herb was wanting to be a Master Measurer and had to do 20 or so trophies to become a Master Measurer. Herb is a business man in Roswell, New Mexico and had limited time to go around and find the trophies to measure. He paid a substantial amount of money toward the fees with my trophies. Herb and I were talking and he said that entering the trophies into the Record Book gives credit to the PH and the Safari Operator. I think there is merit in his thinking. So, I have added some since the initial measurement. I did not enter them for "bragging" but to give credit to the PH's and operators. I have never had any intention of entering trophies for anything else. I could care less about the achievement awards and there is no way in hell that I would pay for such an award. If you have to pay for it, it's not an award. it's a trinket and a very high priced one at that.
